  • Patent number: 5089453
Abstract: A method of making a hydrotreating catalyst wherein the catalyst is prepared by mixing a peptized alumina support containing soluble Group IVB and Group VIII metal compounds with a solution containing a soluble Group VIB metal compound and a basic compound. The catalyst is used for hydrodenitrogenation and Ramsbottom Carbon Residue reduction of a hydrocarbon feedstock.

Date of Patent: February 18, 1992
Assignee: Chevron Research and Technology Company
Inventors: Charles R. Wilson, Kirk R. Gibson, Chi-Wen Hung
  • Patent number: 4830736
Abstract: We provide a graded catalyst system which is used for removing calcium and sodium from hydrocarbon feed having at least 1 ppm calcium and 1 ppm sodium. It comprises two catalyst zones characterized as having decreasing porosity, increasing activity, and increasing surface to volume ratio in the direction of feed flow through the system. We also disclose a process for using it and a method for selecting catalyst for use therein.

Date of Patent: May 16, 1989
    Assignee: Chevron Research Company
Inventors: Chi-Wen Hung, Bruce E. Reynolds
  • Patent number: 4744888
Abstract: We disclose a catalyst system which is capable of removing sodium from a hydrocarbon feed having at least 1 ppm oil-soluble sodium. It comprises a catalyst layer characterized as a fixed bed of catalyst particles having a low volume percent of their pore volume percent in the form of macropores above 1000 .ANG. in diameter, high surface area, and high hydrogenation activity. We also disclose a process of using the system.

  • Patent number: 4551574
Abstract: A new catalyst composition comprising a platinum group component, a tin component, an indium component, an alkali or alkaline earth component and a porous support material wherein the atomic ratio of indium to platinum group component is more than 1.0 is disclosed. The catalyst is particularly useful for dehydrogenating hydrocarbons. In one embodiment of the invention, detergent range normal paraffins (C.sub.10 -C.sub.15 or higher) are dehydrogenated to the corresponding normal olefins in the presence of the subject catalyst and hydrogen.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: November 5, 1985
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
    Inventors: Tamotsu Imai, Chi-wen Hung
  • Patent number: 4506032
Abstract: This invention relates to a new catalyst for converting hydrocarbons. The catalyst comprises a platinum group component, a Group IVA component, especially tin, an alkali or alkaline earth component, more than 0.2 weight %, calculated on an elemental basis, of a halogen component and a porous carrier material, wherein the atomic ratio of the alkali or alkaline earth component to the platinum group component is more than 10. The catalyst is particularly useful for dehydrogenating paraffins having from 2 to 5 or more carbon atoms to the corresponding mono-olefins, or for dehydrogenating mono-olefins having from 3 to 5 or more carbon atoms to the corresponding di-olefins.

  • Patent number: 4438288
Abstract: This invention relates to a new process for dehydrogenating hydrocarbons utilizing a catalyst comprising a platinum group component, an alkali or alkaline earth component and a porous support material. After the catalyst is used to dehydrogenate hydrocarbons it is contacted in a catalyst regeneration zone with a halogen component to produce a regenerated catalyst containing added halogen component, which regenerated catalyst can then be reused to dehydrogenate hydrocarbons. The added halogen component increases the catalyst's activity and stability in the dehydrogenation process.
