The target UE may determine its own transmission configuration for such reference signals, potentially taking into account the measurement capabilities of one or more peer UEs. The target UE may request a transmission configuration for such reference signals from one or more peer UEs. The peer UEs may determine their own transmission configuration(s) for the reference signals, potentially taking into account any request received from the target UE and/or the measurement capabilities of the target UE. The capability information, reference signal configuration information, and measurement results may be exchanged among the UEs. Related positioning protocols may be carried over transport layers of the sidelink interface.

The serving base station receives, from the location management function, a relative time difference calculated based on the DL-RSTD, the first RTOA, and the second RTOA. The relative time difference indicates a synchronization error between the first TRP and the second TRP.

    Abstract: Signalling and protocol methods are proposed to allow positioning operations with signals of the cellular system for a UE in idle or inactive mode. In one novel aspect, UL-PRS is embedded in the RACH procedure: a set of RACH preambles with the functionality of UL-PRS are defined. These preambles are sent by the UE to the serving gNB to initiate a RACH procedure, and the following signalling could convey the measurement results. In another novel aspect, positioning operations on the network side are triggered through an AMF. The AMF may elect not to bring the UE to connected mode before transferring the location request to an LMF; instead, the AMF may indicate that the UE is in idle mode and it expects to page the UE with a subsequent message from the LMF.

The first configuration identifier is an integer in a first range that includes a second range in which a scrambling identifier for generating a CSI-RS is. The UE receives modulation symbols on a set of resource elements allocated for carrying reference signals in an OFDM symbol in a slot in a radio frame. The UE generates a seed of a pseudo-random sequence for deriving the reference signals on the set of resource elements based on a wrapping result of a first output of a function using the first configuration identifier as a parameter and an offset. A second output of the function using a second configuration identifier as a parameter is the same as the first output. The second configuration identifier is in the second range and corresponding to the first configuration identifier.

For non-codebook-based UL transmissions, the processor performs a non-codebook-based UL transmission of a beamformed sounding reference signal (SRS) to the network node by determining a precoder and performing frequency-selective precoding on the SRS using the precoder with a size of precoder bundling for the frequency-selective precoding in a frequency domain known by the network node.
