  • Patent number: 11223988
Abstract: A method of managing default QoS rules for PDU session is proposed. A PDU session defines the association between the UE and the data network that provides a PDU connectivity service. Each PDU session is identified by a PDU session ID, and may include multiple QoS flows and QoS rules. There can be more than one QoS rule associated with the same QoS flow. A default QoS rule is required to be sent to the UE for every PDU session establishment and it is associated with a QoS flow. Within a PDU session, there should be one and only one default QoS rule. In one novel aspect, UE behavior and error handling for proper QoS rule management is defined for PDU session establishment and modification procedures to enforce the one and only one default QoS rule policy.

  • Patent number: 11212324
Abstract: A solution of supporting IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) call setup in a next generation system (5GS) is proposed. During a registration procedure, the network sends indications to a user equipment (UE) indicating whether IMS voice over PS session (VoPS) over 3GPP access and over non-3GPP access is supported or not. The indications comprise two independent indicators, one indicator for indicating whether IMS VoPS is supported over 3GPP access, and the other indicator for indicating whether IMS VoPS is supported over non-3GPP access. In one example, the two independent indicators are included in a 5GS network feature support information element (IE) carried by a registration accept message sent from the network during the registration procedure.

  • Patent number: 11212720
Abstract: A method of handling invalid PDU session during handover procedure between non-3GPP access and 3GPP access in a mobile communication network is proposed. A UE establishes a PDU session over a first RAT, and then tries to handover the PDU session from the first RAT to a second RAT. However, at the network side, the PDU session over the first RAT does not exist anymore and the network considers the PDU session to be invalid. The network thus sends a PDU session establishment reject message back to the UE, with a 5GSM status message cause value #54 indicating “PDU session does not exist”. At the UE side, the PDU session over the first RAT is still valid (e.g., not inactive). In order to resynchronize with the network, the UE performs a PDU session release procedure to release the PDU session over the first RAT.

  • Patent number: 11206597
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide apparatuses and methods for wireless communications. One apparatus includes processing circuitry that selects a non-default and unevaluated URSP rule as an evaluating URSP rule. The URSP rule includes a traffic descriptor matching an application triggered by the apparatus. The processing circuitry selects a first unevaluated RSD of the evaluating URSP rule as an evaluating RSD, and determines whether the evaluating RSD includes at least one of a non-supported PDU session type, a non-supported SSC mode, and a non-supported S-NSSAI. When the evaluating RSD is determined to include at least one of the non-supported PDU session type, the non-supported SSC mode, and the non-supported S-NSSAI, the processing circuitry determines whether the evaluating URSP rule includes a second unevaluated RSD. The processing circuitry selects the second unevaluated RSD as the evaluating RSD when the evaluating URSP rule is determined to include the second unevaluated RSD.

  • Publication number: 20210385743
Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a ME/UE. The ME/UE determines whether there is a closed access group (CAG) information list stored in a USIM utilized by the ME. The CAG information list includes an entry that specifying a public land mobile network (PLMN) ID and a CAG ID that in combination uniquely identify a CAG cell. When the CAG information list is detected: the ME/UE maintains the CAG information list for selecting the CAG cell for the ME to access; the ME/UE searches for the CAG cell according to the CAG information list.

  • Patent number: 11197216
Abstract: A method for handling PDU session handover procedure collision in a next generation NG/5G system is proposed. Both network-triggered and UE-triggered PDU session handover procedures can occur at the same time. If Paging or Notification for PDU session handover comes before UE initiated MO PDU session establishment procedure for PDU session handover, then UE should avoid sending the PDU session establishment request for PDU session handover but only send the service request as a response to paging. On the other hand, if Paging or Notification for PDU session handover comes after UE initiated MO PDU session establishment procedure for PDU session handover, then UE should avoid sending the service request for PDU session handover but proceed with the PDU session establishment procedure as a response to paging.

  • Patent number: 11184934
Abstract: Various examples and schemes pertaining to an AT-command for an always-on PDU session in mobile communications are described. A processor of an apparatus implemented as a user equipment (UE) establishes a protocol data unit (PDU) session between a modem of the apparatus and a network node of a wireless network in response to a trigger by an application executed on the processor. The processor forwards a query from the application to the modem for an indication provided by the network node on whether the established PDU session is an always-on PDU session. The processor then receives the indication provided by the network node from the modem.

  • Publication number: 20210337456
Abstract: A method for configuring Route Selection Policy (URSP) rules with IP 3 tuples as a traffic descriptor component is proposed. URSP is used by a user equipment (UE) to determine if a detected application can be associated to an established Protocol Data Unit (PDU) session, can be offloaded to non-3GPP access outside a PDU session, or can trigger the establishment of a new PDU session. URSP can be configured by the network to the UE. A new component is introduced which can include three parameters of IP 3 tuple for URSP configuration. Upon receiving the new component for IP 3 tuple component, the UE may discover certain errors and determine corresponding error handling.

  • Patent number: 11160123
Abstract: A method of handling PDU session identity (PSI) mismatch for PDU session procedures is proposed. In case a user equipment (UE) receives a 5G session management (5GSM) message in which the PSI value indicates that the PDU session is in 5GSM state PDU SESSION INACTIVE, the UE stays in its current 5GSM state for the PDU session and responds with a 5GSM status message including a 5GSM cause #43 “Invalid PDU session identity” to reduce signaling and UE handling effort. In case the UE receives a 5GSM message in which the PSI value is a reserved or an assigned value, the UE stays in its current 5GSM state for the PDU session and ignores the 5GSM message to reduce signaling.

  • Patent number: 11159976
Abstract: A method of handling mapped Evolved Packet System (EPS) bearer context for invalid QoS flow description is proposed. During a PDU session establishment procedure or a PDU session modification procedure, a UE may receive a mapped EPS bearer context IE for creating a new mapped EPS bearer of a PDU session. If there is no corresponding QoS flow description associated to the new mapped EPS bearer, e.g., if there is no corresponding authorized QoS flow description IE in the PDU session establishment accept message or in the PDU session modification command message, then the UE should send another PDU session modification request message to the network to delete the new mapped EPS bearer context.

  • Patent number: 11153925
Abstract: A method of handling QoS flow descriptions with invalid EPS bearer context is proposed. During an EPS bearer activation or modification procedure, a UE may receive an ePCO/PCO IE for creating a new QoS flow description or modifying an existing QoS flow description. if UE detects that the to be created/modified QoS flow descriptions are associated with invalid EPS bearer context, then UE does, not create/modify the QoS flow descriptions. Instead, UE locally deletes the QoS flow descriptions provided by the network. In addition, UE indicates a 5GSM cause to the network via PCO/ePCO. As a result, when inter-system change from EPS to 5GS happens, UE no longer needs to handle the QoS flow descriptions with invalid EPS bearer context.

  • Patent number: 11134419
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a method of checking errors in parameters configured to a user equipment (UE). The method can include receiving at the UE a quality of service (QoS) rule related IE or the QoS flow description related IE for modifying or creating a QoS rule or a QoS flow description associated with an evolved packet system (EPS) bearer context of a packet data network (PDN) connection. The PDN connection can have a default EPS bearer context and optionally a dedicated EPS bearer context. It is determined whether the default EPS bearer context of the PDN connection is associated with a default QoS rule. When it is determined that the default EPS bearer context of the PDN connection is not associated with the default QoS rule, an error handling operation is performed.

  • Patent number: 11115896
Abstract: A method of enhanced error handling for 5G QoS operations associated with a PDU session is proposed. A QoS operation can be received via a PDU session modification procedure. In one example, the QoS operation is to create a new QoS rule for a PDU session, however, there is an existing QoS rule having the same QoS rule ID (QRI). The UE detects whether the QoS operation will causing the PDU session have no default QoS rule or have more than one default QoS rules. If the existing QoS rule is a default QoS rule, or if the new QoS rule have a default QoS rule (DQR) indication bit set to be true, then the UE rejects the QoS operation and indicates a QoS operation error to the network.

  • Publication number: 20210250409
Abstract: A method of handling multi-access (MA) Protocol data unit (PDU) session upgrade is proposed. An MA PDU session. uses one 3GPP access network or one non-3GPP access network at a time, or simultaneously one 3GPP access network and one non-3GPP access network. A UE may be served by a network slice if a corresponding Single Network Slice Selection Assistance Information (S-NSSAI) is included in the allowed NSSAI per Radio Access Technology (RAT) access type. In accordance with one novel aspect, a UE performs additional check on whether the S-NSSAI associated with an MA PDU session is included in the allowed NSSAI for both 3GPP and non-3GPP access types before the UE sending out a PDU session establishment request or a PDU session modification request of the MA PDU session.

Abstract: A method for UE route selection policy (URSP) rule matching is proposed. URSP is used by a UE to determine if a detected application can be associated to an established PDU session, can be offload to non-3GPP access outside a PDU session, or can trigger the establishment of a new PDU session. The UE first finds a non-default URSP rule with a matching traffic descriptor to the application. When the UE fails to find existing PDU session or setup new PDU session with any or the route selection descriptors of the non-default URSP rule, the UE moves to another non-default URSP rule, if any, and try the matching. If all non-default URSP rules cannot be matched with the application, then the UE tries the default URSP rule, which includes a match-all traffic descriptor.

  • Patent number: 11071043
Abstract: A method of enhanced handling of a Forbidden Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) list is proposed. When a UE tries to attach to a PLMN and receives an ATTACH Reject message having no integrity protection, it could be transmitted from a network entity trying to block the PLMN for providing service. Therefore, by introducing a temporary forbidden PLMN list and a timer T3247, UE can avoid adding the PLMN ID to the Forbidden PLMN list and avoid being blocked for network access. Instead, UE is only temporary refrained from selecting the PLMN ID and is able to retry for the network access after T3247 expiry. The temporary list together with T3247 mechanism thus gives UE more opportunity to try with the same PLMN ID at a different time and/or a different UE location, where the malicious blocking is no longer available.
