  • Publication number: 20090116261
Abstract: A side-emitting backlight module includes a light guide plate and a plurality of point light sources. The light guide plate has a light incident end face. The point light sources are arranged as a first row and a second row. Each of the point light sources has a light emitting face. The first row is disposed between the second row and the light guide plate. Each point light source of the first row is staggered with respect to each point light source of the second row, so that each light emitting face of the point light sources fronts the light incident end face of the light guide plate.

  • Publication number: 20090073683
Abstract: A light guide plate includes a plurality of light guide units each including a light exit surface, a bottom surface, a first side surface and a second side surface. The first and the second side surfaces respectively include a first oblique surface and a second oblique surface. The first and the second oblique surfaces are opposite to each other and both adjoining the bottom surface. The first side surface of one of the each two adjacent light guide units is joined with the second side surface of the other one and thereby the light exit surfaces of the light guide units cooperatively form a substantially flat surface. The light guide units define a plurality of receiving cavities spaced apart from one another by the first and the second oblique surfaces thereof. In addition, a direct-type surface light source device using the light guide plate also is provided.

  • Publication number: 20090046480
Abstract: A backlight module applied to a display and including a linear light source and a light guide plate (LGP) is provided. The LGP includes a light emitting surface, a bottom surface, a light incident surface, a first side surface, a second side surface and a microstructure. The bottom surface is opposite to the light emitting surface. The light incident surface is in contact with the light emitting surface and the bottom surface. The linear light source is disposed adjacent to the light incident surface. The first side surface is opposite to the light incident surface and in contact with the light emitting surface and the bottom surface. The second side surface is in contact with the light emitting surface, the bottom surface, the light incident surface and the first side surface. The microstructure is formed on the second side surface and adjacent to the light incident surface.

  • Patent number: 7448788
Abstract: A backlight module includes a light guide plate and a light source. The light guide plate includes a first end portion, a second end portion, a middle portion between the first and second end portions, a top face extending from the first end portion to the second end portion, a bottom face extending from the first end portion to the second end portion, a light entrance face interconnecting the top and bottom faces at the first end portion, and a plurality of prismatic strips formed on the bottom face. The prismatic strips have a lower density at the first end portion as compared to the middle portion. The density is defined as a total length of the prismatic strips per unit area of the bottom face. The light source is disposed adjacent to the light entrance face.

  • Patent number: 7204634
Abstract: A backlight module includes a light guide plate which has a first sidewall and two opposite second sidewalls extending transversely of the first sidewalls. The first and second sidewalls interconnect two opposite first and second faces. Alight source is disposed at one of the second sidewalls and projects light rays onto the first sidewall at an oblique angle. A first reflection layer is disposed over the first sidewall, and a second reflection layer is disposed over the second face. Total reflection of light into the light guide plate from the first sidewall and second face increases brightness and enhances evenness of brightness.
