  • Patent number: 7303338
Abstract: A light guide plate (10) includes a light incident surface (12), a light emitting surface (14) adjoining the light incident surface, a bottom surface (16) opposite to the light emitting surface, and a plurality of holes (18). Each hole has at least one open end terminating at the light emitting surface or the bottom surface. The holes may be through holes or blind holes. When incident light beams reach the holes, the light beams are reflected or refracted in directions toward the light emitting surface. Therefore a distance traveled by a portion of the light beams in the light guide plate is shortened, and the loss of light energy is reduced. This enables the light guide plate to provide a high ratio of light utilization. Additionally, the through holes reduce the weight of the light guide plate. The light guide plate can be generally rectangular or wedge-shaped.

Abstract: Embodiments of a method for making metal oxides or mixed metal oxides are disclosed. One representative embodiment comprises selecting a substrate for making the metal oxide or mixed metal oxide, contacting a biological system with the substrate material for an effective period of time, and optionally isolating the metal oxide or mixed metal oxide from the biological system. The biological system can be a living organism, or proteins derived from the living organism. Working embodiments used microalgae, specifically diatoms of the class Bacillariophycae, including marine Pennate diatoms, such as Nitzschia and/or Pinnularia diatoms, and Centric diatoms, such as Cyclotella species. • Publication number: 20070067319
Abstract: A hyperlink building system includes a key word database and an add-in module. The key word database has a plurality of advertisement key words stored therein and each of the advertisement key words corresponding to a uniform resource locator (URL) address. The add-in module is used to process a content web page including the advertisement key words and make the advertisement key words become hyperlinks relating to the URL addresses. Therein, when one of the key words is clicked by a mouse, a web page relating to the one of the key words (i.e. content web page or advertisement web page) is activated.

  • Publication number: 20070052880
Abstract: An exemplary backlight module (4) includes a frame (44) and a light guide plate (40) received in the frame. The light guide plate has a top light emitting surface (404). The frame and an end (408) of the light guide plate cooperatively define a gap (46) therebetween. The gap has a narrowed exit (462) adjacent to the light emitting surface, whereby light beams are prevented from either or both of leaking out from the end of the light guide plate and leaking out from the gap via the narrowed exit.

  • Publication number: 20070030696
Abstract: An exemplary backlight module (20) includes a light guide plate (21) having an incident surface (211) and a side surface (714) between an emission surface (212) and a bottom surface (213), the bottom surface being opposite to the emission surface, the side surface being substantially perpendicular to the incident surface; a light source (22) opposite to the incident surface; and a light source cover (23) for reflecting light beams from the light source into the light guide plate. The light source cover is engaged with the light guide plate through a fastening mechanism. The light source cover surrounds one end of the light guide plate at the incident surface, thereby forming a space in cooperation with the end of the light guide plate, and the light source is received in the space.

  • Publication number: 20070020400
Abstract: Embodiments of the present system and method are useful for chemical deposition, particularly continuous deposition of thin films. Disclosed systems typically comprise a micromixer and a microchannel applicator. A deposition material or materials is applied to a substrate, such as an oxidized silicon substrate, a flexible substrate useful for forming flexible devices, such as flexible transistors, and combinations of different substrates. Uniform and highly oriented surface morphologies of films deposited using disclosed embodiments are clearly improved compared to films deposited by a conventional batch process. The process can be used to tailor the composition and morphology of the material deposited on a substrate. The present process can be used at low temperatures as a post-deposition, high-temperature annealing step is obviated.

  • Publication number: 20060120110
Abstract: A light guide plate (20) includes a main body, a light incident surface (201), a light emitting surface (202), and a plurality of light diffusing structures (204), arranged within the main body according to a predetermined pattern. The light diffusing structures are formed using an engraving method. The light diffusing structures are formed within the light guide plate, which protects the light diffusing structures from being damaged. In addition, the laser engraving method and the ultrasonic engraving method can be conveniently controlled, so that the arrangement and distribution of the light diffusing structures can be easily controlled. This enables the light guide plate to be configured with optimal optical characteristics, thereby yielding an improved light utilization ratio.

  • Publication number: 20050220681
Abstract: Embodiments of an apparatus, system, and method for chemical synthesis and/or analysis are disclosed. One embodiment of a disclosed apparatus comprises a laminated, microfluidic structure defining a reactor and a separator. Such apparatuses, or portions thereof, generally have dimensions ranging from about 1 micrometer to about 100 micrometers. To implement synthetic processes, disclosed embodiments of the apparatus generally include at least one valve, and often plural, selectively actuatable valves. Detectors, including optical detectors, also can be used to detect product and other materials as they flow by, or are otherwise presented to, the detector. Individual apparatuses may be coupled both in series and in parallel to form a system for making chemical compounds. The apparatus is particularly useful for making compounds requiring iterative reaction schemes, and further can be used to make compounds having morphological structures that resemble the morphology of the apparatus itself, such as dendrimers.
