Publication number: 20150079985Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems embodiments enable recovering from an out-of-service state in a wireless device. A processor may perform scans of first and second acquisition databases to acquire a first renewed service connection for a first subscriber identification module (SIM). The scans include first and second searches for first channels identified in first and second technology lists, respectively, from the first and second acquisition database, respectively, until either a renewed service connection is acquired or each of the first and second technology lists are exhausted. The first and second technology lists identify channels from a most recently used radio access technology of the respective acquisition databases. The processor may perform a full frequency scan to acquire a first renewed service connection for the first SIM in response to determining that each of the first and second technology lists were exhausted.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 16, 2014Publication date: March 19, 2015Inventors: Karthik Nagpal Bengoti Vuchula, Shivank Nayak, Rajesh Madhukar Patil, Jiming Guo, Venugopal Krishna Srinivasa Srungaram, Chih-Ping Hsu

Publication number: 20150071081Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide techniques for improving uplink transmit power control at a user equipment (UE). When the UE is communicating with multiple cells using Multi-flow High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (MF-HSDPA), the UE may control its uplink power based on an improved MF-HSDPA uplink power control algorithm, which is different from an or-of-downs (OOD) transmit power control. In handover, a UE may determine its transmit power to be less than a transmit power requested by a high-speed cell and more than an OOD transmit power.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 2, 2014Publication date: March 12, 2015Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Abhinav Gupta, Nate Chizgi, Sitaramanjaneyulu Kanamarlapudi, Chih-Ping Hsu, Nitin Kasturi

Publication number: 20140274051Abstract: Various embodiments include methods, systems, and devices for tuning away a mobile device's receiver without retuning the mobile device's transmitter, thereby allowing the mobile device to monitor multiple networks with a single radio frequency (RF) chain while avoiding the problems often associated with tune-away methods, such as loss of throughput, loss of tracking or synchronization, delays in acknowledgments, delays in rate control or channel quality control feedback, etc. The transmitter may remain tuned to a first network while the receiver may be separately tuned to one or more other networks. In various embodiments, the separately tuned receiver may monitor for paging signals on one or more networks while the transmitter remains tuned to the first network and transmits data or control signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: Chih-Ping HSU, Farrukh USMANI, Ling HANG, Rajagopal JEENAGALA

Publication number: 20130316718Abstract: The various embodiments include methods for managing how a MSMS communication device that is accessing an arbitrary combination of multiple telephony networks processes paging collisions. The embodiment methods promote improving a subscription's page blocking rate by causing a MSMS communication device to implement a retransmission remedial action for a blocked subscription. In the various embodiments, the MSMS communication device may implement the retransmission remedial action by increasing a blocked subscription's priority during a subsequent retransmission interval to increase the likelihood that the blocked subscription will receive a repeated page message from its mobile network during this retransmission interval. In some embodiments, the blocked subscription's current priority may be based on the number of retransmission intervals that are presently occurring.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2013Publication date: November 28, 2013Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Chih-Ping HSU, Simon Walke, Shawn C. Patent number: 8594171Abstract: Techniques for operating a diversity receiver are described. A user equipment (UE) may include (i) a first receive chain having an equalizer and a first rake receiver and (ii) a second receive chain having a second rake receiver. The UE may support (i) a first mode in which only the equalizer is used to process a received transmission and (ii) a second mode in which both rake receivers are used to process the received transmission. The UE may determine a first performance metric for the first mode (e.g., based on the performance of the equalizer) and a second performance metric for the second mode (e.g., based on the performance of both rake receivers or only the first rake receiver). The UE may select the first or second mode based on the performance metrics and may power down the second receive chain if the first mode is selected.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2007Date of Patent: November 26, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Ali Taha, Chih-Ping Hsu

Patent number: 8023988Abstract: Techniques to more efficiently control the transmit power for a data transmission that uses a number of formats (e.g., rates, transport formats). Different formats for a given data channel (e.g., transport channel) may require different target SNIRs to achieved a particular BLER. In one aspect, individual target BLER may be specified for each format of each data channel. In another aspect, various power control schemes are provided to achieve different target SNIRs for different formats. In a first power control scheme, multiple individual outer loops are maintained for multiple formats. For each format, its associated outer loop attempts to set the target SNIR such that the target BLER specified for that format is achieved. In a second power control scheme, multiple individual outer loops are maintained and the base station further applies different adjustments to the transmit power levels for different formats.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2008Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Da-Shan Shiu, Serge Willenegger, Richard Chi, Parvathanathan Subrahmanya, Chih-Ping Hsu
