Abstract: A method of formatting a digital broadcast transport stream packet, a digital broadcast transmitter, and a signal processing method thereof, includes constructing a transport stream packet that includes a stuffing region for an insertion of a known supplementary reference signal (SRS) data therein, randomizing the packet that includes the stuffing region is randomized, and the SRS data is inserted into the stuffing region of the randomized packet. Adding a parity for an error correction to the packet into which the SRS data has been inserted, the packet to which the parity has been added is interleaved, and a trellis encoding of the interleaved packet is performed. Inserting a segment sync signal and a field sync signal into the trellis-encoded packet, and a vestigial side band (VSB) modulation and an RF conversion of the packet are performed to transmit the VSB-modulated and RF-converted packet.

Abstract: A method of hierarchical image indexing which extracts representative images of a TV program and generates a hierarchical index image guide of the representative images, and an apparatus therefor. Respective images at predetermined times are extracted from a predetermined program. A hierarchical index is allocated to each extracted image and the indexes are mapped to locations of transport stream packets. A tree of images having the allocated indexes is constructed as a hierarchically indexed Image guide (HIIG). When a stored program is to be reproduced, a location desired to be watched is selected in the HIIG, and from the selected location, reproducing and trick plays (FF, rewind) are enabled such that a user easily searches the program and begins viewing the program at the searched for location.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating a program table that has information associated with playing a TV program and storing the program table with program data. Program packets related to the TV program are extracted from an encoded MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) and stored. A TS demultiplexer extracts the program packets related to a program desired to be stored from TS packets under control of a TS demultiplexer control unit which also extracts location information of an I-picture. A program table having information related to playing the TV program and the location information of the I-picture is generated and the program table is stored together with the TV program so that subsequent play and trick play of the stored TV program are more easily performed by referring to the program table.

Abstract: A digital broadcast receiving apparatus and a digital broadcast receiving method are provided. An oscillator changes a reference frequency of a system clock of the digital broadcast receiving apparatus using a PCRW, which is a program clock reference (PCR) of a first transport stream, a record clock counter tunes a record arriving time clock (ATC) which is generated from the changed reference frequency and generates a tuned record ATC which is necessary to record a second transport stream different from the first transport stream, and a record stream interface adds a time stamp to the second transport stream using the tuned record ATC and outputs the second transport stream to a recording device.

Abstract: Provided is a method of booting an electronic device including a host central processing unit (CPU) and a security module. The method includes: the host CPU starting to boot a system by using boot information in response to a reset or power on event of the electronic device; and when an authentication start instruction is not received by the security module from the host CPU until a first predetermined period elapses after an occurrence of the reset or power on event of the electronic device, controlling an operation of the host CPU by the security module. According to the method, when the authentication start instruction is received before the first predetermined period elapses, the security module authenticates the boot information and controls the operation of the host CPU based on an authentication result. A method of authenticating a boot of the electronic device in the security module is also provided.

Abstract: Provided is a method of improving a channel switching speed in a digital television (TV) receiver. The method includes: generating transport stream packets by channel tuning and demodulating a broadcasting signal of a channel selected by the channel change instruction; outputting the transport stream packets before completion of tuning and demodulating of the broadcast signal; and generating video and/or audio data by demultiplexing and decoding the outputted transport stream packets. In addition, a digital TV receiver applying the improvement of the channel switching speed is provided. The digital TV receiver includes a tuning and demodulating unit generating transport stream packets by tuning and demodulating a broadcasting signal of a broadcasting channel selected by a channel change instruction and outputting the transport stream packets before completion of the tuning and demodulation of the transport stream packets.

Abstract: A digital broadcasting receiving apparatus with improved start-up speed and a start-up method for the digital broadcasting receiving apparatus are provided. The start-up method for the digital broadcasting receiving apparatus includes performing a booting operation related to a central processing unit (CPU) when the digital broadcasting receiving apparatus is powered on, performing a channel decoding operation related to a channel to be displayed while the CPU booting is being performed, and displaying the channel decoded by the channel decoding operation when the CPU booting and the channel decoding are finished. Accordingly, the start-up time of the digital broadcasting receiving apparatus can be remarkably reduced.

Abstract: A multi-program multiplexing/demultiplexing method and apparatus for preventing MPEG jitters from being generated in a digital broadcast, and a multi-program receiver using the multi-program multiplexing/demultiplexing apparatus are provided. The multi-program multiplexing method comprises: extracting a plurality of transport stream packets from a plurality of channel decoders; comparing a reference clock value of each transport stream packet with a system clock value latched by the reference clock value, and generating a system clock control value; inserting the system clock value into a local packet of each channel; and multiplexing a plurality of local packets of a plurality of channels and generating a multi-program packet.

Abstract: A method of and apparatus for converting a program stream (PS) into a transport stream (TS) and a method of and apparatus for recording a data stream using the method and apparatus are provided. The method for converting the PS includes extracting a system clock reference (SCR) and a program mux rate; extracting a stream identifier (ID) from a packetized elementary stream (PES) packet header; identifying a data type of PES packets using the stream identifier (ID); dividing the PES packets according to a payload size of a TS packet if the identified data type is video or audio data; generating consecutive TS packets by adding a TS pack header to each of the divided PES packets; and setting a program clock reference (PCR) of an adaptation field included in a TS packet header of the first generated TS packet equal to the extracted SCR.

The method and apparatus are capable of seamlessly reproducing video and/or audio data streams encoded with two or more different codecs when a change of codecs occurs by determining in advance the start position of a program element at which a change of codecs occurs among video and/or data streams stored in buffers using information regarding a change of codecs included in a data packet and changing the codec used for decoding at the moment when the program element at which the change of codec occurs is first decoded.

Abstract: A picture search method and apparatus for digital reproduction are provided. The picture search method includes, generating a multiple image screen by configuring one or more pictures provided before a reproduction start time selected by a user during a high-speed search to a screen or a plurality of screens, outputting the multiple image screen, and sequentially reproducing following pictures starting from a picture selected by the user among one or more pictures included in the output multiple image screen. Therefore, it is possible to allow a user to exactly select a desired reproduction start time during the high-speed search.
