Abstract: A method of formatting a digital broadcast transport stream packet, a digital broadcast transmitter, and a signal processing method thereof, includes constructing a transport stream packet that includes a stuffing region for an insertion of a known supplementary reference signal (SRS) data therein, randomizing the packet that includes the stuffing region is randomized, and the SRS data is inserted into the stuffing region of the randomized packet. Adding a parity for an error correction to the packet into which the SRS data has been inserted, the packet to which the parity has been added is interleaved, and a trellis encoding of the interleaved packet is performed. Inserting a segment sync signal and a field sync signal into the trellis-encoded packet, and a vestigial side band (VSB) modulation and an RF conversion of the packet are performed to transmit the VSB-modulated and RF-converted packet.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and medium for video synchronization are provided. The apparatus may include a PTS register storing a presentation time stamp (PTS) of a picture to be reproduced and skip enable flag information indicating whether the picture can be skipped, by using a position of the picture in a video decoder buffer in which pictures to be decoded are stored; and a controller controlling the picture reproduction by skipping, repeating, or reproducing the picture with reference to the PTS and the skip enable flag information stored in the PTS register.
Abstract: A picture search method and apparatus for digital reproduction are provided. The picture search method includes, generating a multiple image screen by configuring one or more pictures provided before a reproduction start time selected by a user during a high-speed search to a screen or a plurality of screens, outputting the multiple image screen, and sequentially reproducing following pictures starting from a picture selected by the user among one or more pictures included in the output multiple image screen. Therefore, it is possible to allow a user to exactly select a desired reproduction start time during the high-speed search.
Abstract: A multiplexing method and apparatus are provided to generate a transport stream. According to the multiplexing method, multiplexing is performed for each access unit, an insertion interval for null transport stream packets, an insertion interval for video transport stream packets, and an insertion interval for audio transport stream packets are calculated, and a transport stream is generated by inserting the video transport stream packets, the audio transport stream packets, and the null transport stream packets to fit into the insertion intervals.
Abstract: A method, medium, and apparatus for deleting and/or restoring time-series contents stored in a recording medium. When the time-series contents are stored in the recording medium, deleting of data that is present in a first area of a recording medium includes periodically inserting a time stamp into the contents, generating deletion data positional information based on the time stamp, the deletion data positional information representing a relative position of the deletion data within the contents, storing the deletion data positional information and the deletion data in a second area of the recording medium, and designating the first area as overwritable on the recording medium. Even if the recording medium is reloaded in another disk drive and under another operating system, data deleted from the recording medium can be easily restored.

Abstract: A system and method of decoding a video transport system, wherein the method controls the synchronization of a video transport stream and includes: comparing a frame feature value of a predetermined frame and a first threshold value; and transmitting a presentation skip command of the predetermined frame or a presentation repetition command of the predetermined frame according to the comparison result. As such, when an input rate of encoded video data is different from an output rate of the video data decoded by a display unit or when a system clock jitter occurs, natural pictures are displayed by skipping or repeating a frame for only consecutive frames that have little motion.
Abstract: A method of hierarchical image indexing which extracts representative images of a TV program and generates a hierarchical index image guide of the representative images, and an apparatus therefor. Respective images at predetermined times are extracted from a predetermined program. A hierarchical index is allocated to each extracted image and the indexes are mapped to locations of transport stream packets. A tree of images having the allocated indexes is constructed as a hierarchically indexed Image guide (HIIG). When a stored program is to be reproduced, a location desired to be watched is selected in the HIIG, and from the selected location, reproducing and trick plays (FF, rewind) are enabled such that a user easily searches the program and begins viewing the program at the searched for location.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating a program table that has information associated with playing a TV program and storing the program table with program data. Program packets related to the TV program are extracted from an encoded MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) and stored. A TS demultiplexer extracts the program packets related to a program desired to be stored from TS packets under control of a TS demultiplexer control unit which also extracts location information of an I-picture. A program table having information related to playing the TV program and the location information of the I-picture is generated and the program table is stored together with the TV program so that subsequent play and trick play of the stored TV program are more easily performed by referring to the program table.
