  • Patent number: 9519185
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide a lighting system for a transparent LCD having opposing vertical edges, the system having a mullion lighting assembly positioned adjacent to each vertical edge of the transparent LCD, each mullion lighting assembly having sidewalls defining a center channel. A plurality of LEDs are positioned along the sidewall of each mullion assembly and on a side of the sidewall that opposes the center channel. The LEDs are preferably placed in conductive thermal communication with the sidewall and preferably have a quantum dot film positioned over each LED. A fan is preferably positioned to draw cooling air through the center channel.

  • Publication number: 20160170131
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide an electronic display assembly comprising a liquid crystal layer and a light guide positioned behind the liquid crystal layer. The light guide preferably includes a light emission surface and a light-collecting portion opposing the light emission surface. A pair of opposing side portions may define the periphery of the light guide. A first plurality of LEDs are placed so as to direct the emitted light into the light-collecting portion. An NVIS filter is preferably placed adjacent to at least one of the side portions. A second plurality of LEDs are placed to direct the emitted light through the NVIS filter and into a side portion of the light guide. Alternative embodiments can contain directing elements to direct the light from the second plurality of LEDs into the edge portions of the light guide.
    Type: Application

  • Patent number: 9268166
Abstract: A backlight device for a liquid crystal display containing a substantially planar light guide with a light emission surface and a light-collecting portion opposing the light emission surface. Alternative embodiments can contain NVIS filters and LEDs along additional edge portions of the light guide. Some embodiments may use directing elements or slanted surfaces of the light guide to direct the light from the second plurality of LEDs into the edge portions of the light guide.

A plurality of LEDs are positioned along the sidewall of each mullion assembly and on a side of the sidewall that opposes the center channel. The LEDs are preferably placed in conductive thermal communication with the sidewall. A fan is positioned to draw cooling air through the center channel. A lens may be positioned adjacent to the LEDs to collimate the light. Louvers may be used to direct the emitted light away from the LCD, so as to reflect off the goods within a display case or the cavity within the display case. Some embodiments may use a flange to direct the emitted light away from the LCD.

  • Publication number: 20140313458
Abstract: An electronic display which can be mounted above a paved surface in an outdoor environment. A surface or plate is placed behind the electronic display to define a gap where cooling air can be drawn through said gap in order to cool the electronic display. A plurality of ribs may be placed within the gap and in thermal communication with the electronic display. The density of the ribs may be varied according to the inlet and exhaust openings for the cooling air. The ribs may be placed at a higher density near the exhaust to account for the increase in temperature of the cooling air as it travels through the gap.
