Patent number: 12340401Abstract: Smart gesturing may facilitate smart shopping and other contactless experiences by enabling a user to perform a natural gesture toward one or more desired items with or while wearing a wearable or non-wearable electronic device. The electronic device may identify the smart gesture, and determine the one or more desired items are indicated by the smart gesture. The electronic device may identify the desired items by receiving location data of multiple items, determining a vector based on a first position a second position of the smart gesture, extending the vector to a location, and using the location data to determine which item or items correspond to the location. If more than one item is indicated by the smart gesture, the electronic device may enable selection of the items and, if at least one item is selected, provide information on the selected items or enable additional interaction with the selected items.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2024Date of Patent: June 24, 2025Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Tom Bert Etienne Hauspy, Biljana Badic, Christian Drewes, Christian W. Patent number: 12336035Abstract: A communications network may include a relay device that receives device-to-device (D2D) signals. In an ad hoc mode, the relay may consume relatively little power while receiving relatively few messages from relatively few transmitting devices in the D2D signals. In an organized mode, the device may consume relatively high power while receiving many messages from many transmitting devices in the D2D signals. A receiver on the device may transition from the ad hoc mode to the organized mode in response to a first criterion and may transition from the organized mode to the ad hoc mode in response to a second switching criterion. This may allow the device to balance communications load and power consumption while relaying messages such as emergency messages received over D2D signals given that the signals may arrive rarely or in clusters due to an unforeseen event.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2023Date of Patent: June 17, 2025Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jan K. Ellenbeck, Biljana Badic, Christian Drewes

Dynamic service discovery and offloading framework for edge computing based cellular network systems
Patent number: 12316719Abstract: A user equipment (UE) or other device performs service discovery of edge computing resources in a cellular network system and dynamic offloading of UE application tasks to discovered edge computing resources. As part of the discovery process, the device (e.g., the UE) may request edge server site capability information. When performing dynamic offloading, the UE may obtain (collect and/or receive) information regarding channel conditions, cellular network parameters or application requirements and dynamically determine whether a task of the application executing on the UE should be offloaded to an edge server or executed locally on the UE. In making decisions between offloaded or local execution, the UE may use a utility function that takes into account factors such as relative differences in application latency, energy consumption and offloading cost.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2024Date of Patent: May 27, 2025Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Biljana Badic, Christian Drewes, Ralph Hasholzner, Krisztian Kiss, Teck Yang Lee, Matthias Sauer, Mikhail Vilgelm, Babar Qaisrani, Vijay Venkataraman, Robert Zaus -

Patent number: 12199799Abstract: A communication device is provided that includes a baseband circuit and a transmitter configured to transmit a first signal and a projected signal. The baseband circuit is configured to determine the projected signal based on an estimated signal state information such that an energy of a shaped projected signal is smaller than an energy of a shaped signal. The estimated signal state information is an estimate of a signal state information based on the first signal and a received signal that is received by a receiver of the second communication device. The shaped projected signal is the projected signal received by the receiver of the second communication device and filtered by a filter of the second communication device. The shaped signal is the received signal filtered by the filter of the second communication device.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2023Date of Patent: January 14, 2025Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Markus Dominik Mueck, Ingolf Karls, Christian Drewes, Erfan Majeed, Guido Bruck, Peter Jung

Publication number: 20240073912Abstract: A primary device may run a software application requiring a compute task. The primary device may receive statistics from a set of secondary devices over wireless communication links. The primary device may process the statistics to determine whether the compute task will be offloaded to the secondary devices or performed locally. The primary device may generate a distribution scheme for the secondary devices based on the statistics. This may involve modeling first delays associated with transmission of signals from the primary device to the secondary devices, second delays associated with transmission of compute results from the secondary devices to the primary device, and third delays associated with processing resources of the secondary devices. The optimized distribution scheme may minimize overall runtime of the compute task given the modeled delays, scheduling grants for the secondary devices, and a radio resource allocation for the secondary devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 26, 2022Publication date: February 29, 2024Inventors: Sabine Roessel, Bernhard Raaf, Robert Zaus, Christian Drewes, Matthias Sauer, Josef Hausner
