  • Publication number: 20230094143
Abstract: Methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer programs for offloading computing tasks to one or more computers, e.g., that implement an edge server. In one aspect, the method can include actions of transmitting, for a user equipment and to the one or more computers, uplink information via an air interface; determining whether the uplink information has been fully transmitted across the air interface; based on determining that the uplink information has been fully transmitted across the air interface, triggering a sleep mode for the user equipment and starting a first timer; determining that the first timer has expired; and based on determining that the first timer has expired, triggering (i) a user equipment wake-up operation and (ii) maintaining a second timer that indicates when the user equipment should enter the sleep mode if result data, to be generated using the uplink information, has not been received.

  • Publication number: 20230091862
Abstract: A communications network may include a relay device that receives device-to-device (D2D) signals. In an ad hoc mode, the relay may consume relatively little power while receiving relatively few messages from relatively few transmitting devices in the D2D signals. In an organized mode, the device may consume relatively high power while receiving many messages from many transmitting devices in the D2D signals. A receiver on the device may transition from the ad hoc mode to the organized mode in response to a first criterion and may transition from the organized mode to the ad hoc mode in response to a second switching criterion. This may allow the device to balance communications load and power consumption while relaying messages such as emergency messages received over D2D signals given that the signals may arrive rarely or in clusters due to an unforeseen event.

  • Patent number: 11601308
Abstract: A communication device is provided that includes a baseband circuit and a transmitter configured to transmit a first signal and a projected signal. The baseband circuit is configured to determine the projected signal based on an estimated signal state information such that an energy of a shaped projected signal is smaller than an energy of a shaped signal. The estimated signal state information is an estimate of a signal state information based on the first signal and a received signal that is received by a receiver of the second communication device. The shaped projected signal is the projected signal received by the receiver of the second communication device and filtered by a filter of the second communication device. The shaped signal is the received signal filtered by the filter of the second communication device.

  • Patent number: 11588751
Abstract: Methods and devices for creating and operating a combined network and computational slice instance (NCSI) in a Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) scenario. Communication and computational resources may be reserved by a NCSI controller for the NCSI. The communication resources may include network slices and the computational resources may include MEC computational resources of one or more MEC servers. The reserved resources may be selected based on quality of service (QoS) requirements of UEs that will utilize the NCSI. During operation, reserved resources for the NCSI may be dynamically renegotiated based on an aggregate load of the NCSI, the QoS of data traffic, and/or updated QoS requirements of the UEs.

  • Publication number: 20230013335
Abstract: A communications network may include user equipment (UE) devices. When a first UE device becomes off-grid and has an emergency message, the first UE device may transmit device-to-device signals for receipt by a second UE device. The signals may include one or more preambles that precede the emergency message and that are used by the second UE device to perform synchronization with the first UE device. The second UE device may periodically activate a receiver during a series of windows to listen for the signals, may receive a preamble sequence during one of the windows, and may synchronize its timing to the first UE device for receipt of the emergency message based on the preamble sequence. This may allow the UE devices to be synchronized for transfer of the emergency message over long distances while consuming a minimal amount of power on the second UE device.

  • Publication number: 20220391955
Abstract: Smart gesturing may facilitate smart shopping and other contactless experiences by enabling a user to perform a natural gesture toward one or more desired items with or while wearing a wearable or non-wearable electronic device. The electronic device may identify the smart gesture, and determine the one or more desired items are indicated by the smart gesture. The electronic device may identify the desired items by receiving location data of multiple items, determining a vector based on a first position a second position of the smart gesture, extending the vector to a location, and using the location data to determine which item or items correspond to the location. If more than one item is indicated by the smart gesture, the electronic device may enable selection of the items and, if at least one item is selected, provide information on the selected items or enable additional interaction with the selected items.

  • Publication number: 20220360645
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) or other device performs service discovery of edge computing resources in a cellular network system and dynamic offloading of UE application tasks to discovered edge computing resources. As part of the discovery process, the device (e.g., the UE) may request edge server site capability information. When performing dynamic offloading, the UE may obtain (collect and/or receive) information regarding channel conditions, cellular network parameters or application requirements and dynamically determine whether a task of the application executing on the UE should be offloaded to an edge server or executed locally on the UE. In making decisions between offloaded or local execution, the UE may use a utility function that takes into account factors such as relative differences in application latency, energy consumption and offloading cost.
