  • Publication number: 20080320497
Abstract: A system and method for exchanging components between platforms is described. As a user terminal changes location or preferences, the user terminal may be provided with a new platform that supports desired services. A method and system that relates to migrating one or more components that provide composite services from one communication platform to another is described. A user terminal may receive one or more composite services provided by two or more components existing on platform. As the user terminal switches from one platform to another, the platforms attempt to provide the same services to the user with little to no interruption. Various aspects relate to shifting one or more components from the first platform to the second platform to provide local support for the services desired by the user terminal.

  • Publication number: 20080247418
Abstract: According to the invention, in order to control the access of traffic streams (VS) to the communications network (KN), an available capacity (VK), placed at the disposal of an access node (ZK) for transferring traffic streams (VS) to said communications network (KN), is determined from an access node (ZK) of the communications network (KN), taking into account the total transfer capacity (G) of the communications network (KN). The available capacity (VS) is notably redetermined whenever the routing information (RI) of the access node (ZK) is modified. An access control of this type guarantees the quality of service required in a connectionless communications network.

  • Publication number: 20080205308
Abstract: In communication system (SYS) including a first network (IN) with at least a first terminal node (CN), and an ad hoc network (AHN) with at least a second terminal node (RN1-RN4; MN), and a gateway (GW), transmission information (TI) is forwarded between the first terminal node (CN) of the first network (IN) and the second terminal node (RN1-RN4; MN) of the ad hoc network (AHN). In order to perform a more accurate flow control of transmission information (TI) inside the mobile ad hoc network (AHN), the gateway (GW) and the second terminal node (MN) exchange transmission information (TI) as well as acknowledgement information (ACTAN, ACTAN?, ACTAN?). Preferably, the exchange of the transmission information (TI) and the acknowledgement information (ACTAN, ACTAN?, ACTAN?) is carried out through a tunnel link (TUN1) established between the gateway (GW) and the second terminal node (MN).

  • Patent number: 7415520
Abstract: A method establishes a connection between a source network with a source network resource manager and a target network with a target network resource manager. According to the method, a connection control unit of the source network transmits a connection establishment signal to a connection control unit of the target network and—parallel to this—a reservation request to the target network resource manager. The target network resource reserves the requested resources and forwards the reservation request towards the target network resource manager, which also reserves the requested resources and transmits reservation information regarding the success of the resource reservations to the connection control unit of the target network.

  • Patent number: 7327677
Abstract: Transmission resources are controlled in individual transmission paths in a packet-oriented communication network, whereby data-packet address information which identifies the origin and the goal of the data packets, is transmitted to a resource manager, responsible for a transmission path, from a network transmission device. On a resource request, for a connection to be subsequently generated, the origin and goal thereof are compared with the origin and goal of the previously transmitted data packets by the resource manager. Should there be agreement, the resource manager can deduce that the connection to be established can equally run over the corresponding transmission path. Correspondingly, establishment of further connections occurs, depending upon the available resources of the transmission path.

  • Patent number: 7239631
Abstract: Data packets of a packet-switching network for which transmission of a requested quality is to be assured, are routed via an alternate network. In a source node, such data packets are respectively identified by a bit pattern known to an access node, which is connected to the source node, either directly or indirectly, via at least one intermediate node. The bit pattern is recognized upon arrival in the access node, and as a result of identifying the data packets with the known bit pattern, the data packets are re-routed onto the alternate network.

  • Publication number: 20070133396
Abstract: In one aspect, a method for re-routing data packets of a packet-switching network onto an alternate network that assures a quality requested by a network user is provided. Data packets to be routed via an alternate network in the source node by a bit pattern known to the access node are identified. The known bit pattern is recognizing upon arrival of such data packets in the access node. The data packets identified with the known bit pattern onto are re-routing an alternate network with a quality corresponding to the recognized bit pattern The re-routing of the data packet onto at least one alternate network is prevented, if after recognition of the bit pattern of a data packet to be routed, the at least one alternate network cannot offer the quality corresponding to the bit pattern.

  • Publication number: 20070002821
Abstract: A wireless network with distributed medium access control allows establishing of a virtual channel between a source node and a destination node via at least one intermediate node. The virtual channel may be established for the entire duration of a communication between the source node and the destination node, and, to establish the virtual channel, a request handler can transmit a virtual channel request, requesting an allocation of transmission resources for the virtual channel. Based on the virtual channel request, a virtual channel confirmation can be generated by the destination node and can be returned to the source node, indicating an allocation of the resources for the virtual channel. A communication handler can then transmit data from the source node to the destination node using the available transmission resources.

  • Patent number: 7126919
Abstract: Quality of service is assured for connections routed via a plurality of subregions of a packet-oriented network via connection paths having prescribed transmission system resources by a resource manager in the packet-oriented network which has access to associated information relating to address ranges of the subregions, routes from source subregions to destination subregions through other subregions, and prescribed transmission system resources between the subregions. When a connection is initialized, a requested scope of resources and source and destination addresses are signaled to the resource manager, and a route through the network is ascertained. Then, taking into account the requested scope of resources and the scope of resources between the subregions of the route, a check is carried out to determine whether the initialized connection is authorized. In addition, the transmission system resources may be reserved for the initialized connection in the subregions included in the ascertained route.

  • Publication number: 20060155827
Abstract: To improve consistency of software update in an ad-hoc network, it is proposed to prepare a transition from an initial software configuration to a target software configuration in a first step (S10). Before deciding on commitment to the new software configuration, there is executed a step (S12) to evaluate at least one reconfiguration result achieved at a further mobile device in the ad-hoc network. On the basis of this further reconfiguration result it may be decided whether after commitment to the new software configuration consistency of software versions may be maintained within the ad-hoc network. If this is not the case, e.g., due to a failure of software update in one of the mobile devices, a fallback to the initial software configuration is executed.

  • Patent number: 6958974
Abstract: In a packet-switching network, a stable quality grade is achieved for data services by virtue of the fact that, during the transmission of data packets which are associated with a data service and are assigned to a quality class for the purposes of possible preferential treatment, the transmitter, generally a computer of a service provider, and/or at least one intermediate node establishes the quality of the transmission on the basis of acknowledgements indicating the quality grade and compares it with the quality grade demanded by the data service, and, on the basis of the result of the comparison, the data packets associated with the data service are possibly assigned to another quality class, of which the quality grade demanded by the data service is expected.
