  • Patent number: 5118391
Abstract: A press blanket for a press device in a paper making machine, or the like, is formed of an elastomeric blanket material and fully embedded layers of reinforcement threads. The radially inner layer is formed of longitudinal threads which extend parallel to the axis of the press blanket. The radially outer layer is formed of circumferential threads which are wound in the direction of blanket motion and are wound generally helically. The threads are fully surrounded by the layer of elastomeric material which is of homogeneous, that is formed from a single pouring. The circumferential threads have a diameter of at most 1/500 of the outside diameter of the fully rounded press blanket. In a unit area of the press blanket, the tensile strength of the circumferential threads is at least 40% greater than the tensile strength of the longitudinal threads.

  • Patent number: 5107625
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a continuous press shell that is liquid-tight and smoothed on its inside, and which can be used as a press element in a dewatering press is provided. The press shell consists of a continuous wire belt which on its outside is coated with a plastic. Upon the smoothing of its outside, the coated press shell is turned, so that for the use of the press shell its smoothed surface will be on its inside. For turning the press shell, the one continuous edge of the press shell is first turned inward and attached to a traction device. Next, an adjoining and as yet unturned section of the press shell is held back on its outside, by means of vacuum, on a fixed guide device. Lastly, the traction device, along with the edge of the press shell attached to it, is pulled through the interior of the press shell.

  • Patent number: 5081759
Abstract: A cylinder has a roll shell that rotates around a fixed central axis. A first chamber arranged inside the cylinder is filled with liquid and transfers a supporting hydraulic force from the central axis to the shell. The first chamber is linked by a throttle to a second chamber located as well inside the cylinder, and in which is arranged for example a hermetically closed rubber hose filled with gas, so that the second chamber is at all times only partially filled with liquid. Thus, the volume of liquid contained in the second chamber can rapidly change when there is a change of pressure in the first chamber, so when the shell tends to vibrate, liquid flows back and forth through the throttle, converting wave energy into frictional heat by means of fluid friction, and thereby damping the vibration.

  • Patent number: 5078835
Abstract: A ledge for resiliently supporting a paper making machine wire has a head ledge which extends across the direction of travel of the wire and over which the wire can slide. The head ledge is rigidly connected to a movable support ledge which also extends across the direction of travel of the wire and is guided on a stationary support structure. Between the movable support ledge and the stationary structure there is a resilient push device which can displace the movable support ledge together with the head ledge between a position of rest away from the wire and an operating position in which the head ledge is pressed with a predetermined force against the wire. The stationary structure has several guide arms distributed over the length of the support ledge which are the exclusive means for guiding the movable support ledge. Several guide arms arranged in pairs are provided which grip around the support ledge, in the manner of a clamp.

  • Patent number: 5033176
Abstract: A sag compensating roll having a stationary yoke for taking up bending forces, a hollow roll shell surrounding the yoke and hydrostatic support elements between the yoke and the shell. Each support element having a pressure shoe facing the inner surface of the shell defining a slide surface at the shell. Relief pockets recessed into the slide surface. A pressure space defined between a first piston on the yoke and the pressure shoe, and the shoe is radially movable with respect to the first piston. A pressure fluid line communicates with the pressure space and, by capillaries from the pressure space, communicates with the relief pockets. The pressure space and the relief pockets are dimensioned so that the active surface of the relief pockets is larger than the active surface of the pressure space acting on the support element.

  • Patent number: 5012730
Abstract: Press roll with a tubular cylinder, featuring on each of its two ends a roll head with a journal, specifically for use in a roll press consisting of the press roll and a backing roll with controlled deflection, for the treatment of web type material such as a paper web or the like. The inside surface of the tubular cylinder is so shaped across the web width that the shape of the flex line of the tubular cylinder will approximate during operation the flex line of the roll shell of the backing roll. This yields a press roll having a relatively thin-walled tubular cylinder which is lightweight. Nonetheless, an extensively constant line force is achieved in the press gap of the roll press across the web width.

  • Patent number: 5003863
Abstract: Located in a stationary frame is a cylinder-piston unit, the piston of which is adapted to displace the bearing housing of a roll in a paper-making machine at right angles to the longitudinal axis thereof. The bearing housing is guided in the frame with the aid of linear guide-elements. The radial play between the piston and the cylinder-bore is greater than the transverse play between the said linear guide-elements. Furthermore, the axial length of the piston is less than the depth of the cylinder-bore. Whenever the cylinder-piston unit is relieved of its load, and the cylinder thus returns to its position of rest, it is centered in the cylinder-bore by means of a centering device.

  • Patent number: 4986178
Abstract: Holding arrangement for a device directed against a linearly adjustable roll, such as a doctor blade, blowing device or similar. On a holding arrangement for a device for surface treatment of the roll shell, directed against a linearly adjustable roll, where the roll is endways mounted through a bearing housing each in a machine frame, where for each bearing housing a cylinder/piston unit is provided for displacement of the roll, and where the roll is removable from the machine frame together with the bearing housings, a holder plate is arranged between the bearing housing and the piston of the cylinder/piston unit, which holder plate is connected with a support bearing for the device for surface treatment of the roll shell. Available is thus a holding arrangement of the categorial type which relative to the roll is well adjustable, which need not be lifted off as the roll contacts the opposite roll and which overall can be so integrated that it remains on the machine frame as the roll is lifted off.

  • Patent number: 4838156
Abstract: A roller press has a press roll and at least one pressure roll applying pressure to it. In the end region of each pressure roll, there is an associated positioning cylinder. The positioning cylinders relieve the pressure of the pressure roll against the press roll automatically upon an impermissible increase in the operating pressure in the positioning cylinder. For this purpose, each positioning cylinder has a safety valve which is operated either by the working fluid in the positioning cylinder to the pressure relief condition or by an electrical signal, in different embodiments, to relieve pressure in the positioning cylinder. The safety valves are coupled to each other by a signal line. When one safety valve relieves one positioning cylinder, all of the positioning cylinders are relieved.
