    Abstract: A sensor system, device, and methods for determining the concentration of an analyte in a sample is described. Gated amperometric pulse sequences including multiple duty cycles of sequential excitations and relaxations may provide a shorter analysis time and/or improve the accuracy and/or precision of the analysis. The disclosed gated amperometric pulse sequences may reduce analysis errors arising from the hematocrit effect, variance in cap-gap volumes, non-steady-state conditions, mediator background, under-fill, temperature changes in the sample, and a single set of calibration constants.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to electrochemical sensor strips and methods of determining the concentration of an analyte in a sample or improving the performance of a concentration determination. The electrochemical sensor strips may include at most 8 ?g/mm2 of a mediator. The strips, the strip reagent layer, or the methods may provide for the determination of a concentration value having at least one of a stability bias of less than ±10% after storage at 50° C. for 4 weeks when compared to a comparison strip stored at ?20° C. for 4 weeks, a hematocrit bias of less than ±10% for whole blood samples including from 20 to 60% hematocrit, and an intercept to slope ratio of at most 20 mg/dL. A method of increasing the performance of a quantitative analyte determination also is provided.

    Abstract: A system for normalizing measurements obtained from spectrometers to correct for measurement biases in individual spectrometers. The normalization system is adapted for use in spectrometers having an optical assembly for obtaining characteristic data from a test sample. A normalization factor is obtained in each spectrometer by placing a holographic dispersion filter between the light source and detector in the position normally occupied by the test sample, the filter having been encoded with a symbol representing a nominal value of light expected to pass through the filter. The spectrometer determines the value of light passing through the filter and calculates a normalization factor based on the ratio between the nominal value of the filter and the actual value obtained by the spectrometer. The normalization factor is stored in system memory and the filter removed so that the spectrometer may thereafter be used to evaluate a plurality of test samples.

    Abstract: Analytical reaction cassette and method for performing sequential analytical assay procedures to determine the amount of an analyte in a liquid test mixture. The reaction cassette can be in the form of a substantially square container having a substantially horizontal axis of rotation and incorporated with one or more analytical reagents such that they are contacted with a liquid test mixture in a desired ordered sequence to perform a particular assay procedure. Corners provided by the substantially square configuration of the reaction cassette disrupt the flow of liquids disposed in the reaction cassette upon contact therewith to thereby agitate and mix such liquids. A liquid disposed in the reaction cassette is capable of being manipulated and mixed therein by rotating the reaction cassette about the horizontal axis at sufficiently low velocities wherein the transport of such liquid is noncentrifugal and due substantially only to gravitational force.
