  • Patent number: 10710577
Abstract: A method of performing an autonomous parking maneuver of a vehicle begins with a human vehicle operator/driver issuing a command to a parking assistance system that the parking maneuver requires at least one vehicle wheel to encounter a vertical obstruction (such as a curb) undetected by a sensor providing information to the system. In reaction to the command, the parking assistance system enters an operating mode wherein a setpoint speed of the vehicle during the maneuver is decreased to operate the engine with a greater torque reserve so that it is better adapted to deal with the vertical obstruction. A brake system condition may also be changed when in the operating mode, such as decreasing a brake disk/pad distance. The command may be issued by a vehicle operator standing outside of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 10697226
Abstract: The disclosure concerns a method for the remote-controlled operation of a tailgate of a motor vehicle. A sensor arrangement of the motor vehicle detects environmental data of the motor vehicle. A control apparatus of the motor vehicle triggers the opening of the tailgate on receiving a wireless opening signal from an operator and triggers the closing of the tailgate on receiving a wireless closing signal from an operator. The control apparatus checks for the presence of at least one closure condition of the tailgate that is independent of the wireless closing signal based on the environmental data detected by the sensor arrangement during opening of the tailgate, and if the closure condition is present, the control apparatus triggers the closing of the tailgate.

  • Publication number: 20200098204
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for locating a cause of the premature discharge of a battery in a vehicle. To simplify locating a cause of the premature discharge of a battery in a vehicle, it is proposed to monitor the current drawn from the battery via an electrical system of the vehicle in the ignition-off-state. Data collected as part of the monitoring can then be examined either alone or in conjunction with additional, in particular, vehicle-specific and/or global data, for information relevant to isolating and/or determining the cause.

  • Patent number: 10597029
Abstract: A method to park a vehicle in a parking space using a parking assistant is provided. The course of a parking maneuver is dynamically adapted to boundaries of the parking space that are changed during the parking maneuver by determining whether and in which direction the boundaries of the parking space change during the parking maneuver. An originally determined first trajectory is replaced by a second trajectory that is adapted to changed boundaries of the parking space and along which the parking maneuver is continued.

  • Patent number: 10510254
Abstract: For operating a motor vehicle, a travel path of the motor vehicle across a roadway section of a roadway situated ahead of the motor vehicle and in the direction of travel of the motor vehicle is ascertained. The travel path is defined by an instantaneous running condition of the motor vehicle, a virtual local map that contains instantaneous local wind conditions, an instantaneous location of the motor vehicle on the virtual local map, and information relating to the instantaneous environment of the motor vehicle. The ascertained travel path is used for actuating at least one device of the motor vehicle that influences the instantaneous running condition of the motor vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20190375410
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the autonomous driving of a vehicle (1) through a narrow passage (5). The method comprises the storing of a right-of-way rule for the narrow passage (5) in a database, which the vehicle (1) can access. The narrow passage (5) and an oncoming vehicle (13) approaching in the region of the narrow passage (5) are sensed by means of sensors of the vehicle, and the speed of the oncoming vehicle (13) is determined by means of speed data sensed by the sensors. Furthermore, a reaction of the oncoming vehicle (13) is predicted in accordance with the determined speed of the oncoming vehicle (13), and the vehicle (1) is moved through the narrow passage (5), provided that the prediction of the reaction of the oncoming vehicle (13) indicates that the oncoming vehicle (13) will not pass through the narrow passage or frees the narrow passage (5) for passage or the right-of-way rule stored in the database provides that the vehicle (1) has the right of way in the narrow passage (13).

  • Patent number: 10479273
Abstract: A method for avoiding or reducing damage to a parked vehicle caused by a collision with an approaching vehicle performing a parking operation included determining, by the parked vehicle, a risk of collision, transmitting a warning signal if the risk of collision is sufficiently high, monitoring whether the approaching vehicle reacts to the warning signal, and performing a maneuver by the parked vehicle to avoid or reduce collision damage if there is no reaction. The maneuver may permit a controlled contact between the parked vehicle and the approaching vehicle to minimize the force of the contact. After such a controlled contact, a braking torque exerted by the parked vehicle is increased. Following completion of the damage avoidance maneuver, an estimate of the extent of the completed damage prevention is made and provided to the owner of the parked vehicle (including information about potential saved repair costs).

  • Publication number: 20190279007
Abstract: The content and installation site of road signs are verified by detecting a road sign in one or more images from at least one camera. Image analysis is used to determine the content of the road sign portrayed in the image that is visually recognisable for a human being. Moreover, the installation site of the road sign is determined, and data that are not interpretable for a human being are obtained that are provided by the road sign and that represent the content and the installation site of the road sign. If the determined data and the data obtained from the road sign are concordant then the content of the road sign is displayed or announced to a driver of the vehicle for information. If there is no concordance then a further automatic plausibility check can be performed or a question or information can be sent to the driver.

  • Patent number: 10363960
Abstract: A maneuvering process of a motor vehicle is assisted in at least partially automated fashion from a present position into a target position. A multiplicity of possible trajectories from the present position into the target position are determined. One of said trajectories is defined as the trajectory to be followed by the vehicle during the maneuvering process on the basis of a predefined criterion. The definition is performed repeatedly during the execution of the maneuvering process, with the trajectory to be followed being updated in each case.
