  • Patent number: 6687356
Abstract: A system and method of device-aware service provisioning in a hybrid/integrated telecommunications network having a packet-switched network portion (PSN) and heterogeneous circuit-switched network (CSN) portions. A user profile is provided which partitions a service in three dimensions: a user-specific service part, a device-specific service part, and a combination part which specifies service conditions when an end-user uses a particular device or terminal. A common IP telephony Value-Added Services infrastructure is included wherein device-aware service triggers are provided for triggering appropriate service partitions of the user profile. Upon encountering a device-aware service trigger in a call control process, a service switching node queries the user profile and determines the service conditions associated with the particular device-specific service part to be invoked.

  • Publication number: 20040006623
Abstract: The mechanism for providing services to a terminal user includes identifying at least one service to be offered to the terminal user. Each of the identified services are then linked to a corresponding Hyper Text Terminal Protocol Uniform Resource Identifier (HTTP URI). A list is built for all linked HTTP URIs, and the list is forwarded to the terminal user. The terminal receives the list in the form of an incoming message, the incoming message comprising the HTTP URIs corresponding to services being offered to the user. The terminal displays the HTTP URIs, and obtains the user's selection. Then, the terminal activates the HTTP URI corresponding to the user's selection.

  • Patent number: 6625141
Abstract: A system and method for providing Value-Added Services (VAS) in an integrated telecommunications network having a packet-switched network portion (PSN) operable with Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). The integrated telecommunications network includes a SIPext SSP server, a trigger server, and a service node having a Service Logic Program (SLP) that is operable with Intelligent Network Application Protocol (INAP). The SIPext SSP and service nodes are provided with the capability to communicate using SIP-compliant messaging. New header fields are provided that specify operations to be performed by the service node with respect to a service. INAP service parametric data is also provided in the header fields in a sequential form. When a call is received in the SIPext SSP server for a user having a subscription for a VAS, it queries the user profile stored in the trigger server.

  • Patent number: 6614784
Abstract: A system and method of service provisioning in an integrated telecommunications network having a packet-switched network portion (PSN) and a circuit-switched network (CSN) portion with a gateway disposed therebetween. A service node comprising a Service Control Point (SCP), a Service Data Point (SDP), or both, is provided with an interface operable with the PSN portion. A first entity (e.g., served entity) is capable of accessing the service node for the purpose of invoking a service. A return result from the service node is provided, based on the decision of what action is to be taken with respect to the service request, to the first entity which then determines how the action is to be effectuated. An indication is thereafter provided by the first entity to a second entity (e.g., re-routing entity) preferably using H.450.X messages. In response, the second entity (i.e., re-routing or switching entity) takes an appropriate service action based on the return result obtained from the service node.

  • Publication number: 20030084147
Abstract: The present invention relates to two methods, an apparatus and to a Service Capability Server (SCS) for controlling interactions between a network and a third party service. The SCS comprises capabilities for receiving a trigger request for at least one event from the third party service. The SCS is also capable of communicating with an apparatus in the network to add a trigger in a trigger table of the apparatus and capable of receiving a notification from the trigger table of an occurrence of the at least one event. The notification comprises the third party service reference, the reference to the at least one event and a reference to at least one user registered to the third party service within the network. The SCS is further capable of informing the third party service of the received notification of the occurrence of the at least one event.

  • Publication number: 20030079020
Abstract: A method, system, and service provider for program-on-demand service in a telecommunications network, wherein a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) terminal sends to a service provider, preferably over an HTTP link, a program request for a plurality of selected programs. The service provider determines which content provider stores the first program, and establishes an SIP session between that content provider and the SIP terminal, session which is used for streaming the first selected program to the SIP terminal, preferably using Real-Time Protocol (RTP). At the termination of a first program, the service provider releases the first SIP session and establishes a second SIP session between the SIP terminal and a second content provider storing the second program. The service provider may have a Web Server for selecting programs, and may be connected to an SIP functionality having a Parlay/SIP converter and an SIP server for handling SIP sessions using Parlay/OSA-based messages.

  • Publication number: 20020160810
Abstract: An Intelligent Network Service Control Point (IN-SCP) and method of implementing user services in a telecommunications network utilizing user-defined Call Processing Language (CPL) scripts. The IN-SCP stores at least one CPL script that provides a first service when the script is executed. The IN-SCP includes a CPL script interpreter for mapping semantics of the CPL script to IN procedural detection points. When the IN-SCP receives a service trigger from a call server such as a Mobile Switching Center (MSC), the IN-SCP executes the CPL script. If the user also subscribes to service provider-defined IN services, the IN-SCP executes the service provider-defined IN services first, and then executes the CPL script after determining that the script is consistent with the IN services.

  • Publication number: 20020154755
Abstract: A multi-level application-programming-interface-based system and method permit applications developed by third-party service providers outside a telecommunications network to access capabilities of the network. The applications access a physical gateway using an external-service application-programming-interface. The physical gateway communicates with the network via an internal-service application-programming interface. Internal-service applications resident on the physical gateway utilize internal-service application-programming interfaces to communicate with network entities of the network. The network entities preferably each comprise a logical gateway that is used to communication via the internal-service application-programming interface with the internal-service applications.

  • Publication number: 20020026473
Abstract: Application-programming-interface(API) based triggers are included in an API-based system. Information about users associated with specific triggers in a user profile database is downloaded for use during calls. Upon occurrence of pre-determined events during the calls, triggers are sent to a service manager. The service manager performs service interaction management in response to the triggers. The trigger information is cached by the service manager in order to minimize network traffic. If no service interaction management is necessary, applications communicate directly with network entities such as, for example, call servers. If service interaction management is necessary, the service manager serves as a proxy between the applications and the network entities.

  • Patent number: 6226643
Abstract: A customer administrative system is interfaced with one or more database network elements having unique subscriber creation or deletion policies. An agent is included within the interface to process a received generic subscriber creation or deletion command originated by a customer administrative system. Responsive thereto, the one or ones of the database network elements implicated by the command are identified and issued, in accordance with the appropriate unique policy for each identified database network element, the required individual database network element specific commands necessary to effectuate the subscriber creation or deletion activity.

  • Patent number: 6199066
Abstract: A customer administrative system of a wireless communications system is interfaced with one or more system database network elements to support single command meta-service activation and management tasks. In this regard, a meta-service comprises a package of individual services. An agent is included in the interface to process single meta-service command for handling by the database network elements. The database network elements supporting the individual services implicated by the meta-service command are identified and are issued appropriately formatted, device specific commands for effectuating the meta-service activation or management task. In the event that each implicated database network element cannot successfully complete the requisite meta-service activation or management task, the service provision state of each implicated database network element is rolled-back to a service provision state prior to receipt of the meta-service command.
