  • Patent number: 8088516
Abstract: A battery cell has a plurality of first and second electrodes of opposite polarities that are interleaved. Each of the first and second electrodes is a sheet of non-woven fabric having a first edge from which a tab projects, and a second edge transverse to and substantially longer than the first edge. The non-woven fabric is coated with a metal in a manner that forms a strip along the second edge which has a greater electrical conductivity than areas more remote from the second edge. The strip extends along the tab. A first terminal is electrically connected to the strip along the tabs of the first electrodes, and a second terminal is electrically connected to the strip along the tabs of the second electrodes.

  • Patent number: 7923655
Abstract: A sorter system includes a plurality of sortation bins with a feed path connected to the plurality of sortation bins for transporting media items to destination sortation bins. A controller is connected to control the plurality of sortation bins and is operable during a sortation process to reassign the destination sortation bin into which a media item is sorted. The system operation may employ a method for sorting media items where a plurality of media items are fed onto a transport system for sortation. Each media items is sorted into a destination sortation bin of a plurality of sortation bins connected to said transport system. Destination sortation bins for media items are dynamically reassigned based of the determined status of the media items in the sortation bins. The status of media items is sensed in each of said plurality of sortation bins may be determined based on sensors associated with the equipment or tracked by a controller or other techniques which track the mail pieces being processed.

  • Publication number: 20080250023
Abstract: A system and method for maintaining and accessing a database containing a number of content segments indexed by broadcast time is provided. If a user is interested in a particular content segment broadcasted from a station, he activates a portable bookmarking device which creates an entry comprising a broadcast time and a user preference indicator. In one form, the user may activate one or more buttons to indicate a positive or negative preference, while in another form a number of buttons may represent a number of categories of interest, such as varying genres. Upon coupling with a gateway, the user is presented with content selected from the database based upon the created time entries. In a further form, the system intelligently identifies the broadcast station likely associated with a bookmark and additionally may perform a correction process to ensure bookmark time accuracy.

  • Patent number: 7387251
Abstract: A method and system for reading various codes, such as codes imprinted on an item, includes a first and a second code reader that each scan the code on the item to read the code. The data obtained by the first and the second code reader is merged to reconstruct the code on said item. The position of the code readers may be adjusted such that the maximum reading efficiency of said code by each code reader occurs at different points of the scanned code. The method and system may be employed with different types of codes including various forms of bar codes.

  • Publication number: 20080065605
Abstract: A method of interfacing data entry to an address matching engine includes of entering into a client processing system browser locale data for an address and entering into the client processing system browser an alphanumeric value of the street portion of said address. The client processing system sends to a web service after each entry of an alphanumeric value of the street portion of the address, the entered locale data and the entered alphanumeric street portion of the address. At the web service based on the entered locale data and the entered alphanumeric street portion of the address, searching is implemented for potential address matches. Any potential address matches obtained by the web service are returned from the web service to the client processing system in such a manner that any address matching session is maintained on the client processing system.

  • Patent number: 7258277
Abstract: A method for processing mail pieces having information thereon includes scanning the mail piece information and storing scanned mail piece information. Stored information is accessed when a scanned mail piece information is incomplete to obtain previously stored complete mail piece information. The previously stored complete mail piece information is employed in processing the mail piece with the incomplete information. The information may be a code or text that is scanned and stored during the processing of the mail. Fragmentary information from various sources on the scanned mail piece may be combined to access a previously stored mail piece record. The accessed information may be displayed.

  • Publication number: 20040230543
Abstract: A method for retrieving mail tracking details of a mailpiece sent to a recipient using a stored image of the mailpiece. A mailpiece is provided with a unique mailpiece tracking identifier and the identifier is stored in a database. An image of the mailpiece is then acquired and also stored in the database in association with the unique mailpiece tracking identifier. Mailpiece tracking details for the mailpiece are then acquired as the mailpiece is delivered to a recipient, which tracking details are stored in the database in association with the mailpiece tracking identifier and stored image. A user seeking the particular tracking details is then presented with at least one stored image of a mailpiece, and when an image is selected by a user, the user is presented with the mail tracking details that were stored in association with the selected mailpiece image.

  • Patent number: 6819777
Abstract: A mail sorter (22) includes an imaging device (60) to generate a plurality of images each corresponding to one of the plurality of mail pieces (36). The mail sorter (22) performs a character recognition routine on each of the images to sort a number of the mail pieces (36) and identify one of the mail pieces as being unsortable by the routine. An operator input processing subsystem (24) includes a number of stations (74). These stations (74) each include a display and a voice input device. The subsystem (24) responds to the mail sorter (22) to route the images to the stations (74). One of the stations (74) is operable to display one of the images on its corresponding display device and receive vocal input from an operator with its corresponding voice input device in response to viewing the image. The subsystem (24) executes a voice recognition routine to determine address information from the vocal input and provides this information to the mail sorter (22) to sort a corresponding one of the mail pieces (36).
