Patent number: 8629978Abstract: Three-dimensional surface illumination using curved laser sheets is described for optical flow measurements over conformal curved surfaces. The illumination method is applicable to many different optical-based flow visualization and measurement techniques, particularly for particle image velocimetry. An alignment sheet increases the accuracy of determining the position and movement of particles used in optical-base fluid flow techniques.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2011Date of Patent: January 14, 2014Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air ForceInventors: Jordi Estevadeordal, Christopher Marks, Rolf Sondergaard, James M. Publication number: 20070269157Abstract: The vehicle differential includes a housing (40) having at least one bearing seat (41) that is aligned along an axis. The housing also includes a counter bore having an internal thread. A bearing assembly (20) located in at least one bearing seat (41) supports a pinion shaft. The bearing assembly (20) comprises a bearing (38) and a lock member (62). The bearing (38) is located in at least one bearing seat (41) and around the pinion shaft. The bearing (38) includes an outer race (45), an inner race (46) and rolling elements (47). The outer race has a raceway (48) that is inclined with respect to the axis. The outer race (45) also has an external thread (49) on the narrow/thin section of the outer race, that is located around the outer race (45) and that is engaged with the internal thread (43) of the housing counter bore to set the bearing (38) along the axis.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 10, 2005Publication date: November 22, 2007Inventors: Glenn Fahrni, Christopher Marks, Gregory Piotrowski, Michael Marcelli

Publication number: 20050063629Abstract: A vehicle differential includes a housing having bearing seats and a carrier provided with stub shafts which project into the bearing seats. The carrier is supported in the housing on two single row tapered roller bearings which allow the carrier to rotate, but confine it radially and axially. The housing also contains a beveled pinion which meshes with a beveled ring gear that is attached to the carrier. The two bearings are mounted in opposition and each includes a cup that is located in the bearing seat for that bearing, a cone that fits around the stub axle that projects into that bearing seat, and tapered rollers located between the cup and cone. Each bearing seat contains an internal thread and the bearing cup which fits into the seat has an external thread that engages the internal thread. Each cup also carries a locking ring which is engaged by an adjustment tool to turn the cup, but is later deformed into the housing to secure the cup against rotation.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 22, 2003Publication date: March 24, 2005Inventors: Glenn Fahrni, David Milam, Michael Marcelli, Christopher Marks, Kofi Obeng, Scott Russell, Byron Roubanes, Gary Stoffer

Publication number: 20020067980Abstract: A component feeder for an automatic placement machine holds a number of tubes containing electronic components and feeds them sequentially to a pick point located at the end of a track. A tube in a loading position is pressed into contact with the end of a track. The remaining tubes in the magazine are held by an escapement mechanism. A pusher is driven along the bore of the tube in the loading position to drive component from the tube and along the track to the pick point. When the tube in the loading position is empty, front and rear supports are withdrawn and the tube drops from the bottom of the feeder. The escapement mechanism then lowers a next tube into the loading position.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 1999Publication date: June 6, 2002Inventors: RICHARD D. HAVICH, JOHN ANTHONY KUKOWSKI, KEVIN T. EMMONS, CHRISTOPHER MARKS

Patent number: 6260261Abstract: An assembly tool for attaching components such as connector plugs or receptacles to a printed circuit board includes a printed circuit board support plate and a sliding member. The sliding member is movable between a first position and a second position relative to the support plate. A holder is pivotally connected to the sliding member and carries a component to be attached to the printed circuit board. A first actuator is connected to a sliding member and moves the sliding member between the first and second positions. A second actuator is connected to the holder and pivots the holder between a receiving position and a mounting position. A component is brought into proximity with the holder and checked for alignment and polarity. Once checked, the component is placed on the holder.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: Universal Instruments CorporationInventors: Christopher Marks, Andrzej H. Lux

Patent number: 4593464Abstract: Conductive terminals (40) are plastically deformed whereby to connect electrically and mechanically to one or another of a pair of tubular electrical conductors (10,20) of a triaxial connector. Each terminal has an annular groove (41) therein received within a respective notch (13) in a lip extending from one of the respective tubular conductors (20, 30) and the terminal is struck to deform the walls of the groove around the lip. The other end of each terminal (40) is connected to the connector housing (1) by a plastic potting compound (50).Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1984Date of Patent: June 10, 1986Assignee: Allied CorporationInventors: Robert L. Williams, Christopher Marks
