Abstract: Gathering location information from a first wireless network to determine whether to anchor a communication session in a second wireless network, a mobile node capable of communicating with both the first wireless network and the second wireless network, includes receiving location information from the first wireless network as the mobile node moves through one or more service areas of the first wireless network. It is determined whether a triggering event occurs. If the triggering event occurs, the location information is stored to determine whether to anchor a session in the second wireless network.

Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a method is provided for communicating a presence notification to an end-point of a demand-based messaging system. The method includes monitoring an auxiliary output port for a video signal; detecting a video signal on the auxiliary output port; and reporting a video projection status to the end-point. In additional or alternative embodiments of the method, the method may include receiving a message from the end-point and blocking the message from being displayed on the auxiliary output port. In yet another additional or alternative embodiment of the method, the method may include sending a message to the end-point indicating that the message has been blocked.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a system and method for status notification. The method comprises receiving a subscription message from a first endpoint requesting status data for a second endpoint; detecting a change in status data of the second endpoint; and notifying the first endpoint of the change in status. The subscription message comprises a resource identifier associated with the second endpoint.

Abstract: In one embodiment of the present invention, a method is provided for redirecting a session established between two endpoints. In such an embodiment, the method comprises receiving a SIP request to redirect the session to a third endpoint; dissociating the two endpoints; suspending a media session between the endpoints; connecting a signaling session between one endpoint and a third endpoint; and connecting the media session. In an alternative embodiment, a method is provided for referring a first endpoint to a second endpoint outside of an established dialog. In such an embodiment, the method comprises receiving a SIP REFER request specifying a uniform resource indicator associated with the second endpoint as a target; identifying a protocol associated with each endpoint; initiating a session with the first endpoint using an appropriate protocol; receiving media control information from the first endpoint; and connecting the session to the second endpoint using an appropriate protocol.

Abstract: Anchoring a communication session for a target mobile phone includes identifying a current access node operable to provide the target mobile phone access to a first network of a first network type. Potential access nodes operable to provide a mobile phone access to a second network of a second network type are identified. Whether the communication session can be handed off to a potential access node of the one or more potential access nodes is established. Anchoring of the communication session is initiated in the second network only if the communication session can be handed off to a potential access node of the one or more potential access nodes.

Abstract: Providing an announcement for a multiparty communication session involves establishing a communication session between at least two endpoints. A request to add an added endpoint to the communication session is received. A procedure to provide an announcement to the endpoints of the communication session is initiated. The announcement is played in response to determining a status of a media path of the added endpoint, and is provided from a rendering of a participant identifier associated with the added endpoint.

Abstract: A method for routing calls in a packet-based network includes receiving a call request at a first call manager from a device that is coupled to the packet-based network. The call request includes a telephone number associated with a plurality of telephony devices that are coupled to the packet-based network and that are controlled by a number of call managers. The method also includes determining a line control process associated with the telephone number that is included in the call request and communicating the call request to the line control process. The method further includes determining a device process controlling each telephony device that is associated with the telephone number included in the call request and communicating the call request from the line control process to the device processes.

Abstract: A method for providing signaling in a network environment is provided that includes receiving, at a mobile station, a new call from a mobility application, the new call including a caller ID segment associated with an existing call for the mobile station. The method further includes evaluating data included in the caller ID segment in order to perform an activity related to the data provided in the caller ID segment.

Abstract: A server for authenticating call-out services over a public switched telephone network (PSTN) includes a memory, a port to receive information provided by a caller over the PSTN, the information including ciphertext, and a processor operable to use the information to look-up a value in the memory and to perform a calculation that produces a result utilizing an algorithm. The processor authenticates the caller if the ciphertext matches a set of initial bytes of the result. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. Abstract: A print media sheets trailing edge knockdown stacking assistance system, in a compiler or other stacking system with a substantial sheet gravity drop, activated for each ejected sheet to move substantially linearly and perpendicularly downwardly from above, but adjacent to, the sheet ejection position to engage a sheet end area and rapidly push it down towards the underlying stack of sheets and into engagement with any sheet compiling device, then automatically rapidly reciprocally lifting up out of the way above the sheet ejection position before another sheet is ejected, without any significant pause between its up and down movements.

Abstract: Provided is a method for characterising an analyte by matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation (MALDI) mass spectrometry, which method comprises: (a) labelling the analyte with a light-absorbing label that absorbs light at a pre-determined frequency, to form a labelled analyte; (b) embedding the labelled analyte in a matrix formed from at least one compound that absorbs light, to form an embedded labelled analyte; (c) desorbing the embedded labelled analyte by exposing it to light having the pre-determined frequency, to form a desorbed analyte; and (d) detecting the desorbed analyte by mass spectrometry to characterise the analyte; wherein the light absorbing label comprises a fluorophore moiety, and wherein prior to detecting by mass spectrometry, the analyte is selected for detection on the basis of its fluorophore moiety.

Abstract: A method is provided that includes receiving a request from a communication device to establish a communication session with a mobile station, the mobile station being operable to roam between a private and a public network. The mobile station is signaled via a cellular data network that a call is being initiated for the mobile station. Signaling information may be exchanged with a voice gateway such that one or more voice circuits are established. A signaling pathway may be established between an Internet protocol private branch exchange (IP PBX) and the mobile station via the cellular data network. The establishment of the signaling pathway is substantially concurrent with the establishment of one or more of the voice circuits. One or more features associated with a private network are delivered to the mobile station during the communication session as an end user moves between the public and private networks.

Abstract: A method to be executed in a session initiation protocol (SIP) environment is provided that includes initiating a conversion process that involves a change from a first communications platform to a second communications platform. One or more routing tables associated with the first communications platform are then dumped. A conversion script is executed such that one or more patterns associated with a dial plan corresponding to the second communications platform are provided in a dial plan format. One or more files associated with the dial plan are loaded into one or more endpoints that are designated to change to the second communications platform.

Abstract: An apparatus for communicating data in a shared line environment is provided that includes a first reservation element operable to communicate with a second reservation element. The first reservation element is associated with a first location and the second reservation element is associated with a second location. A call may be initiated between the first location and the second location, the second location having one or more end-user devices that share a common line. The first reservation element is operable to reserve bandwidth associated with a connection that involves the first location and the second location before the call occurs.

Abstract: A modular external defibrillator system in embodiments of the invention may include one or more of the following features: (a) a base containing a defibrillator module, (b) a pod having a patient parameter module with patient lead cables attachable to a patient to collect at least one patient vital sign, the pod operable at a distance from the base, (c) a communications link between the pod and the base to carry the at least one vital sign from the pod to the base, the defibrillator module delivering a defibrillation shock to the patient based on the at least one vital sign.

Abstract: A method for facilitating communications between wireless networks is provided that includes communicating with a mobile station and transferring a communication session from a first wireless link to a second wireless link. The mobile station is operable to negotiate a first wireless link with a first wireless network, to establish a communication session with a device using the first wireless link, and to facilitate a session handoff with a second wireless link with the second wireless network using the second wireless interface. The handoff is enabled by associating the first wireless link to the second wireless link.

Abstract: A mobile station is provided that includes a first wireless interface operable to couple to a first wireless network, and a second wireless interface operable to couple to a second wireless network. A controller included in the mobile station is operable to negotiate a first wireless link with the first wireless network using the first wireless interface, to establish a communication session with a device using the first wireless link, to facilitate the communication session with a second wireless link with the second wireless network using the second wireless interface, and to invoke a selected one of a plurality of private branch exchange features. One or more of the features are delivered to the mobile station via a phone feature proxy function that is enabled by a mobility application that is operable to communicate with the mobile station.

Abstract: A method for effecting handoff of a communication session between a cellular telephone and a desktop telephone includes anchoring a communication session involving a remote device and a cellular telephone in an enterprise network such that signaling for the communication session passes through an element of the enterprise network; receiving an indication to handoff the communication session from the cellular telephone to a desktop telephone coupled to the enterprise network; placing the remote device in a holding state in response to the indication; and coupling the desktop telephone to the remote device to resume the communication session.

Abstract: A system for providing a single number reachability solution for communications with a desktop telephone and a cellular telephone includes a mobility application coupled to a call management application. The call management application can associate a telephone number with a desktop telephone and a first communication port, receive a first telephone call initiated by a remote device and directed to the telephone number, and offer the first telephone call to the desktop telephone and to the first communication port. The mobility application can associate the first communication port with a cellular telephone, obtain a second communication port from multiple available communication ports in response to the offer, and place a second telephone call to the cellular telephone using the second communication port.
