    Abstract: A composite material for electromagnetic interference shielding is provided. The composite material comprises a stack including at least two electrically conductive nanoscale fiber films, which are spaced apart from one another by at least one insulating gap positioned between the at least two nanoscale fiber films. The stack is effective to provide a substantial multiple internal reflection effect. An electromagnetic interference shielded apparatus and a method for shielding an electrical circuit from electromagnetic interference is provided.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a lithium ion battery. The lithium ion battery cathode includes a cathode, a separator, an anode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution. The cathode includes a cathode current collector and a cathode material layer disposed on a surface of the cathode current collector. The cathode material layer comprises cathode active material, conductive agent, and adhesive uniformly mixed together. The cathode active material comprises cathode active material particles and AlPO4 layers coated on surfaces of the cathode active material particles. The separator includes a porous membrane and a protective layer coated on a surface of the porous membrane. The protective layer prevents the separator from being melted during charging or discharging of the lithium ion battery.

    Abstract: The present invention is a blood pressure measuring device comprising an optical sensing unit adapted for detecting optical pulses at a plurality of locations on an external surface of a user. The device also comprises a processing unit coupled to the optical sensing unit for determining an optimal location from the plurality of locations based on the detected optical pulses and a pressure sensing unit adapted for detecting a pressure pulse of the user at a location of measurement. The present invention also discloses a method of measuring a blood pressure of a user using a blood pressure measurement device. The advantage of the present invention is that by using an optical sensing unit to locate the artery of the user, or to compensate the misalignment from the artery, the blood pressure is more accurately determined. With the calibration method, the deficient cuff calibration can be waived in certain circumstances.

A molar ratio of the trivalent aluminum source, the metallic oxide, and the phosphorous source is set by (MolAl+MolMetal):Molp=about 1:2.5 to about 1:4. MolAl is the amount of substance of an aluminum element in the trivalent aluminum source, MolMetal is the amount of substance of a metallic element in the metallic oxide, and Molp is the amount of substance of a phosphorous element in the phosphorous source.

    Abstract: A membrane electrode assembly (MEA) for a fuel cell comprising a catalyst layer and a method of making the same. The catalyst layer can include a plurality of catalyst nanoparticles, e.g., platinum, disposed on buckypaper. The method can include the steps of placing buckypaper in a vessel with a catalyst-precursor salt and a fluid. The temperature and pressure conditions within the vessel are modified so as to place the fluid in the supercritical state. The supercritical state of the supercritical fluid containing the precursor salt is maintained for period of time to impregnate the buckypaper with the catalyst-precursor salt. Catalyst nanoparticles are deposited on the buckypaper. The supercritical fluid and the precursor are removed to form a metal catalyst impregnated buckypaper.

    Abstract: A rapid response relative humidity sensor based on nano-structured aluminum oxide thin film is disclosed. The main body of the sensor is an anodic aluminum oxide thin film of about 2-20 ?m thick formed from an Al substrate which serves as one electrode. A porous metal layer of about 20-200 nm thick is formed over the anodic aluminum oxide thin film and functions as a second electrode. The alumina thin film contains nano-sized channels of about 10-100 nm in diameter, serving as a capacitive relative humidity sensor having high sensitivity and short response time. Thermal annealing at elevated temperature improves the linearity of the capacitance versus humidity curve, giving a full range humidity sensing range. Hysteresis and degradation are negligible for the humidity sensors.
