  • Patent number: 11906124
Abstract: A system may have lights. The lights may emit visible and infrared light. Infrared light may be used to illuminate objects that are monitored using infrared image sensors or other infrared sensors. Visible light may be used to illuminate objects that are viewed by users and which may be monitored using sensors. The lights may be adjustable. An adjustable light may have a light source that contains an infrared light-emitting device such as an infrared light-emitting diode and a visible light-emitting device such as a visible light-emitting diode. A reflector may reflect light from the light source towards a lens. An adjustable light-blocking device may be located between the reflector and the lens. • Publication number: 20240004125
Abstract: A system may have windows. A window in the system may have first and second window layers such as structural layers of glass. The window may have a light guide layer between the first and second window layers. The light guide layer may have cladding layers and a core layer between the cladding layers. The core and cladding refractive index values may be selected so that the refractive index of the core is greater than the refractive index of the structural layers of glass while the refractive index of the claddings is less than the refractive index of the structural layer of glass. Light-scattering structures may be formed on the light guide to extract some of the light within the light guide and thereby provide illumination for the system.

  • Publication number: 20230395015
Abstract: A display may have a display panel with an array of pixels formed from light-emitting diodes. Optical films that help collimate and homogenize light from the light-emitting diode pixels may overlap the light-emitting diodes. A transparent cover may overlap the display. The transparent cover may have an outer surface and an opposing inner surface, which may have areas of compound surface curvature. Louvers that serve to reduce off-axis solar light reflections while allowing light from the display panel to be emitted may be formed from molded polymer supported by a transparent cover layer in the cover. A diffuser may be formed by embedding light-scattering particles in a polymer layer covering the louvers and/or by forming light-scattering surface structures such as ridges and/or other texture on the surface of the polymer layer. Electrically adjustable light modulator layers and electrically adjustable louvers may be used in the display.

  • Patent number: 11833959
Abstract: A lighting module comprising lighting elements and a controller configured to receive a control signal that identifies a user as present. In response to the control signal associated with user presence, the lighting module is configured to send a command to one or more of the lighting elements to illuminate a first zone where the user is present. The lighting module is configured to receive a control signal that identifies that illumination of a second zone was previously requested by the user at a current location, and in response to the control signal associated with the current location, send a command to one or more of the lighting elements to illuminate the second zone.

  • Publication number: 20230349528
Abstract: A system may have lights produce illumination. A light may be provided with a collimated light source that produces collimated light. The collimated light source may use lenses or reflective optical elements to produce the collimated light. The light may have an array of light elements each of which emits a respective beam of the illumination. Each light element may have a preshaping lens that receives the collimated light and produces corresponding preshaped output light and an output lens that receives the output light from the preshaping lens and produces a corresponding beam of the illumination. An electrically adjustable shutter may be located between each preshaping lens and output lens to adjust the illumination between a low-beam pattern and high-beam pattern.

  • Publication number: 20230333308
Abstract: A system may have windows. A window may have a structural window layer such as a structural window layer formed from laminated glass layers. The window may separate an exterior region from an interior region within the vehicle. A light guide illuminator in the window may provide illumination for the interior region. The light guide illuminator may have a light guide that receives light from a light source. The light guide may have a density of light scattering structures that increases as a function of increasing distance from the light source so that the interior illumination is uniform across the light guide illuminator. An adjustable optical component layer such as a light modulator and/or a haze compensation layer with a density of light scattering structures that decreases as a function of distance from the light source may be interposed between the light guide and the structural window layer.

  • Publication number: 20230231090
Abstract: A system may have an exterior display. The exterior display may display symbols that correspond to intended actions for the system or instructions for nearby viewers. The exterior display may include an array of light-emitting diodes, a collimator, a one-way filter to prevent sunlight from washing out the display, and a cover layer. The one-way filter may include a microlens array and a masking layer. The collimator is configured to collimate light from the array of light-emitting diodes and provide the collimated light to the one-way filter. The microlens array receives the collimated light and focuses the collimated light through a plurality of holes in the masking layer. In this way, the majority of display light is passed through the one-way filter towards a viewer. However, the majority of ambient sunlight is blocked by the masking layer, thus preserving a high contrast for the exterior display even in bright sunlight.
