  • Patent number: 6780160
Abstract: A device for quantitively collecting, preserving and mailing a specimen of fecal or other biological matter for later analysis comprises a tubular vessel defining a chamber closed at one end by a plug and restricted at the opposite end by a narrow aperture. A stopper for closing the open end of the vessel extends into a stick having indentations capable of retaining some of the biological matter. The stick intimately engages the aperture so that the amount of matter introduced into the chamber is limited to what is carried in the indentations. The shank of the stick seals the aperture once the stopper has been screwed into place. The plug mounts a breakable hollow nib and is installed after introduction into the chamber of a metered volume of preserving solution. A cover caps the plug and nib to provide additional sealing of that end of the vessel.

  • Publication number: 20040161836
Abstract: The invention relates to biotechnologically expressible, enzymically active recombinant porcine liver esterases, to a biotechnological method for the preparation thereof and to the use thereof in organic synthesis. The monomeric subunits of recombinant porcine liver esterase are truncated at their C-terminal end, compared with naturally occurring porcine liver esterase subunits. • Patent number: 6777928
Abstract: The present invention is a rotary magnetic position sensor having a pair of pole differentiated permanent magnets, wherein rotation of a magnetic field relative to a magnetosensitive device provides a varying output of the magnetosensitive device that varies sinusoidally with the angle of relative rotation. The magnetic pole differentiation is achieved by an external asymmetric geometrical feature of the magnets, as for example a wedge shape involving a pole face chamfer or a corner chamfer at a same polarity pole face.

  • Publication number: 20040153562
Abstract: Embodiments for an apparatus and method are provided for building optimal latency in streaming applications that use data packets. In an embodiment, a system has an under-run forecasting mechanism, a statistics monitoring mechanism, and a playback queuing mechanism. The under-run forecasting mechanism determines an estimate of when a supply of data packets to convert will be exhausted. The statistics monitoring mechanism measures the arrival fluctuations of the supply of data packets. The playback queuing mechanism builds latency in the supply of data packets based on the estimate determined by the under-run forecasting mechanism and the arrival fluctuations measured by the statistics monitoring mechanism. In an embodiment, the supply of data packets relates to audio.
