  • Publication number: 20100322473
Abstract: A decentralized tracking system is discussed herein. The decentralized tracking system can be comprised of two or more tracking elements and be used to track packages moving on a conveyor system. Each tracking element can operate independently, despite being highly sophisticated and dynamically coordinated with one or more other tracking elements. The conveyor system can be a modular and/or accumulation conveyor system that has sorting functionality. The decentralized tracking system can be used to divert packages for sortation by, for example, embedding a destination zone into the package's tracking data and/or preprogramming conveyor zones to sort specific packages based on a package identifier.

  • Patent number: 7648181
Abstract: A latching and locking mechanism for fence gates or doors. The mechanism comprises a locking pin for selectively securing the gate in the closed position. When the locking pin is removed from a portion of the mechanism, the gate can easily be opened or closed. When the locking pin is inserted through a portion of the mechanism, the gate is held in a closed position. The locking pin can be locked in the closed position with a lock.

  • Patent number: 7470086
Abstract: A submersible and remotely-operable platform system for carrying out repeated operations in a submarine position, and producing electrical energy as either a primary or secondary purpose by means of one or more energy-conversion payload devices installed thereon. The platform and payload devices may be periodically brought to the surface and thence, if necessary, to a shore-based facility for maintenance or refit. In deployment, the platform is preferably engaged to its mooring lines and electrical cables while still on the surface. Simultaneous with controlled flooding of certain of its volumes, the platform is guided to an operational depth and attitude by the action of its winch assemblies upon their engaged mooring lines. Subsea currents energize the platform's payload of energy conversion devices, the electrical output being preferably conveyed via one or more surface-attached cables to an off-board facility for further processing, distribution, or consumption.

  • Patent number: 7082401
Abstract: A method for placing equipment in a network begins with a baseline network on which demographic data is analyzed statistically to produce a demographically-driven driven demand forecast model. The demand forecast model yields a predicted demand for each census block group. This can be visualized as one map layer with a GIS. The layout method takes the predicted demands as input and produces new attribute information for network nodes, the central office and cross-connects. By the layout method the cost of placing equipment at available placement sites or nodes is minimized based on various constraints, e.g., the capacity of the equipment to be placed, the distance a user is located from a potential node. Once the minimum cost for a given set of placement sites, subscribers, equipment capacity, and other known constraints is determined the equipment are then placed at these sites. These include the number and type of DSLAMs assigned to each node.

  • Patent number: 7017958
Abstract: A latching and locking mechanism for fence gates or doors. The gate latch of this invention is comprised of a steel locking pin that slides through the latch device. When the locking pin slides out of the latch device, the gate can easily be opened or closed. When the locking pin is inserted through the latch device and around the gate, the gate is held in a closed position. The locking pin can be locked in the closed position with a lock.

  • Publication number: 20050132715
Abstract: A method facilitates assembling a gas turbine engine. The method comprises providing an engine frame including an integrally formed outer band, an inner band, and a plurality of circumferentially-spaced apart struts extending radially therebetween, and providing at least one fairing that is formed as an integral single piece casting and includes a first sidewall and a second sidewall connected at a leading edge and a trailing edge such that at least one cooling chamber is defined therebetween. The method also comprises coupling the at least one fairing around at least one strut such that the strut extends through the fairing at least one cooling chamber and such that during the coupling process the fairing is only transitioned axially around the strut rather being slid radially along the strut.

  • Patent number: 6484635
Abstract: A device for providing cleaning or other solution in a printing press including a spraying device, the spraying device having a liquid exit disposed along a width of the spraying device for delivering a liquid to a press component and a spray shield selectively covering at least one part of the liquid exit so as to block delivery of the liquid through the at least one part to the press component. Also disclosed is a method for providing cleaning or other fluid to a printing press component comprising the steps of spraying a fluid over a fixed width of a press component, and blocking part of the fluid over a part of the fixed width so that the part of the fluid does not reach the press component.

  • Patent number: 6302019
Abstract: A method and apparatus for adjusting skew settings in a dampener in a printing press. One or more skew adjustment linkages connect skew adjustment rods for the upper and lower dampeners of each printing unit. The linkage ensures that a single movement by the operator will allow adjustment of the skewing of both the upper and lower dampeners at the same time. The linkage or linkages are preferably connected at one end to skew adjustment brackets, which in turn are connected to a skew adjustment rod for one of the upper or lower dampeners. The skew adjustment rod adjusts the amount of skew of associated pan rolls. Movement of the linkage may be controlled by movement of a spring plunger, which is connected to the linkage or linkages. The spring plunger may be spring biased, and may be adjusted and locked into different skew setting positions using a pinhole arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5730435
Abstract: The present invention is related to an apparatus for delivering flat products, such as signatures, in a folding apparatus of a rotary printing press. At least one fan wheel assembly has a plurality of fan blades separated from each other by fan wheel pockets. The fan wheel pockets are defined by surfaces of the fan blades. A first surface of each fan wheel pocket is configured to cause the signature to take on an energy dissipating state.
