Publication number: 20140052024Abstract: A blood sampling device includes a housing and a lancet supporting a lancet needle or tip, the lancet and needle being urged or urgeable in a pricking direction. A trigger mechanism is moveable to a fire position for releasing the lancet to travel in the pricking direction. A removable safety cap initially covers the lancet needle. The lancet has an initial position in which movement of the trigger mechanism to its fire position is blocked and an intermediate position in which the trigger mechanism may be moved to its fire position. The intermediate position is obtainable only on removal of the safety cap.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 6, 2012Publication date: February 20, 2014Inventors: Clive Nicholls, Christopher Hudson

Patent number: 8460330Abstract: A lancing device includes a main housing 28 having in the forward upper end thereof a loading bay for receiving a capped lancet 12/20. The loading bay is closed by a cover 34 which is pivotally and slideably moveable in the housing. Closing the cover and then pushing it rearwardly causes the lancet body 12 to be pulled rearwardly clear of the cap 20 thereby exposing the lancet needle. Further rearward movement of the shifts the lancet cover into a battery position ready to be driven forwardly by a drive mechanism when fired.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2008Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Owen Mumford LimitedInventors: Clive Nicholls, Robert Michael Wozencroft

Patent number: 8172867Abstract: A skin pricking device includes first (12) and second (14) housing parts telescopically coupled together. A lancet (26) and a firing mechanism (32,38) are disposed within the first housing part, whilst a membrane (25) is disposed over an open end of the first housing part to seal the first housing part containing the lancet and the firing mechanism. Movement of the second housing part towards the first housing part activates the firing mechanism thereby driving a tip (30) of the lancet through the membrane and through an opening (18) in the second housing part.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2007Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Assignee: Owen Mumford LimitedInventor: Clive Nicholls

Patent number: 8114109Abstract: A single-use skin pricking device (7) comprising a housing (8), a lancet (1) disposed (5) within the housing (8), biasing means (11) coupled between the housing (8) and the lancet (1), and a trigger (12) mounted to the housing (8) for relative movement therewith. The trigger (8) is releasably coupled to the lancet (1) such that movement of the trigger (8) in a first direction moves the lancet (1) in a direction to compress the biasing means (11), and then causes release of the lancet (1) from (10) the trigger (8) whereby the biasing means (11) drives the lancet (1) in a second direction substantially opposite to said first direction.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2007Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Assignee: Owen Mumford LimitedInventor: Clive Nicholls

Publication number: 20120029439Abstract: Apparatus for loading into an injection device and comprising a syringe and a boot remover. The syringe has a syringe body, a needle and a boot providing a sterile cover for the needle. The boot remover has a body for substantially enclosing the boot and a lip or lips projecting inwardly to engage a junction between the boot and the syringe body. The boot remover also has, at its widest point, substantially the same outer dimension as, or a smaller outer dimension than, the syringe body. The apparatus can be loaded into an injection device through an opening at a distal end of the device such that, when loaded, a portion of the boot remover projects through a proximal end of the device to facilitate removal of the boot remover and boot by a user. This arrangement allows a user to remove the boot from the syringe by holding and pulling on said grip.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2009Publication date: February 2, 2012Inventors: Christopher Hudson, Clive Nicholls
