  • Publication number: 20180048367
Abstract: A method and apparatus provide equal energy codebooks for coupled antennas with transmission lines. A plurality of precoders can be received from a codebook in a transmitter having an antenna array. Each precoder of the plurality of precoders can be transformed to a transformed precoder such that the transmit power for each transformed precoder is equal to the transmit power for each of other transformed precoders of the plurality of precoders. The transmit power can be expressed as a quadratic form with respect to the corresponding precoder. The quadratic form can be based on a transmission line impedance of a transmission line between a signal source and the antenna array. A signal can be received from the signal source. A transformed precoder of the plurality of transformed precoders can be applied to the signal to generate a precoded signal for transmission over a physical channel. The precoded signal can be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20170324457
Abstract: A method and apparatus optimize antenna precoder selection with coupled antennas. A power metric corresponding to each precoder of a plurality of precoders can be received at a receiving device. Reference signals can be received. A transmission channel corresponding to each precoder can be estimated based on the reference signals. The estimate of the transmission channel can be scaled based on the power metric for each precoder. A channel quality metric for each precoder can be generated based on the scaled estimate of the transmission channel. An index of a precoder with the largest channel quality metric can be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20170238266
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmit a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) with a lower Additional Maximum Power Reduction (A-MPR). A target power (PPUCCH_TARGET) can be set to power control a PUCCH transmission. A first maximum device output power (PCMAX_L1) can be computed for transmitting a first PUCCH RB in a first slot of a subframe. A second maximum device output power (PCMAX_L2) can be computed for transmitting a second PUCCH RB in a second slot of a subframe. A first difference in power can be determined by subtracting the target power (PPUCCH_TARGET) from the first maximum device output power (PCMAX_L1). A second difference in power can be determined by subtracting the target power (PPUCCH_TARGET) from the second maximum device output power (PCMAX_L2).

  • Publication number: 20170230960
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmit a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) with a lower Additional Maximum Power Reduction (A-MPR). A first A-MPR to apply to a transmission power can be ascertained at a device for a first resource block of a PUCCH transmission. A second A-MPR to apply to a transmission power can be ascertained for a second resource block of a PUCCH transmission. A difference between the first A-MPR and the second A-MPR can be determined. A PUCCH resource block can be transmitted in a slot of a subframe only for the PUCCH resource block of the first and second resource blocks with a lower A-MPR of the first A-MPR and the second A-MPR when a magnitude of the difference between the first A-MPR and the second A-MPR is greater than an A-MPR difference threshold.

  • Patent number: 9660708
Abstract: A method and apparatus provide beamforming with coupled antennas. A first channel matrix can be transformed into a transformed second channel matrix. The first channel matrix can be a channel from a transmitter array of antennas of the transmitting device to at least one receiver antenna of a receiving device. A precoding matrix can be determined that maximizes the capacity for the transformed second channel matrix subject to a power constraint of the precoding matrix. The channel capacity maximizing precoding matrix for the transformed second channel matrix can be converted into an optimal precoding matrix for the first channel matrix. A signal can be received for transmission. The optimal precoding matrix can be applied to the signal to generate a precoded signal for transmission over a physical channel. The precoded signal can then be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20170134077
Abstract: A method and apparatus for channel determination for time division duplex systems with coupled antennas. A signal can be received at a receiving device. The signal can be based on a first product of an inverse of a transmit coupling matrix of a transmitting device and a receive coupling matrix of the transmitting device. A second product of a transmit coupling matrix of the receiving device and an inverse of a receive coupling matrix of the receiving device can be calculated. A receive channel from the transmitting device to the receiving device using reference symbols transmitted by the transmitting device can be measured at the receiving device. A reverse channel can be determined based on the signal and based on a third product of the second product and the transpose of the measurement of the receive channel. A precoded signal based on the reverse channel can be transmitted.

  • Patent number: 9541632
Abstract: A base station communicates a positioning reference signal (PRS) to wireless communication devices over a downlink in a wireless communication system by encoding a PRS into a first set of transmission resources, encoding other information into a second set of transmission resources, multiplexing the two sets of resources into a subframe such that the first set of resources is multiplexed into at least a portion of a first set of orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) symbols based on an identifier associated with the base station and the second set of resources is multiplexed into a second set of OFDM symbols. Upon receiving the subframe, a wireless communication device determines which set of transmission resources contains the PRS based on the identifier associated with the base station that transmitted the subframe and processes the set of resources containing the PRS to estimate timing (e.g., time of arrival) information.

  • Publication number: 20160345298
Abstract: A method and apparatus determine that an almost-contiguous resource allocation Additional Maximum Power Reduction (A-MPR) applies to an uplink transmission power. An indication of a resource allocation of resource blocks for a transmission can be received. The resource allocation can be ascertained to be a non-contiguous allocation of resource blocks. An almost-contiguous resource allocation Additional Maximum Power Reduction (A-MPR) can be determined to apply to an uplink transmission power for the transmission. An almost-contiguous resource allocation can be defined as a contiguous resource allocation of resource blocks from which resource blocks are punctured and the punctured resource blocks are contained in a contiguous region overlapping a boundary between the lower frequency carrier and the adjacent upper frequency carrier. The punctured resource blocks can be resource blocks that are not allocated for the transmission.
