  • Patent number: 9339947
Abstract: A restored metallic extrusion processing element comprises a tubular metal core around which is consolidated a powdered metal extrusion component that includes metallurgically bonded interior shell and exterior working portions. The interior shell portion covers the core and is characterized by a first multiple-crystalline microstructure, and the exterior working portion is characterized by a second multiple crystalline microstructure of densified powdered metal particles. The exterior working portion has an outside surface including outer working surface features that extend along the length of the extrusion processing element. A bond interface of metallurgical type defines a crystalline microstructure boundary between the first and second multiple-crystalline microstructures.

  • Publication number: 20070177451
Abstract: A serrated kneading disk including a body having a perimeter that is an ellipse having truncated ends, the curved elliptical portions forming flanks and the truncated ends forming crests. The crests are curved to form the arc of a circle having a radius substantially the same as the radius of the bore of the extruder barrel with which the disk is to be used. The disk body has a cylindrical passageway extending through the middle thereof, the passageway having a configuration adapted to allow the kneading disks to be lockingly engaged on the shaft of an extruder screw. A plurality of grooves are formed in the flanks and crests. A serrated kneading block can be formed from a plurality of the serrated kneading disks, or formed as a single body having a plurality of lobes, each lobe being substantially identical to the serrated kneading disk.

  • Publication number: 20070047380
Abstract: A tip adapted to be mounted to the downstream end of an extruder screw. The tip includes a nose section and an extruder screw mount section. The nose section includes an upstream face and a first and second downstream faces. The upstream face has a major plane that is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tip, is substantially flat, and has a substantially circular perimeter. The first and second downstream faces have major planes that are substantially flat. The major plane of the first downstream face is at an angle to the major plane of the second downstream face whereby they meet at a juncture located at the outer end of the tip. The extruder screw mount section includes means for attaching the tip to the extruder screw.

  • Publication number: 20050259507
Abstract: An extruder barrel segment includes an integral heat-exchanger fluid flow passageway device that is formed into a desired shape. The barrel segment is formed employing a process, such as near net shape casting or lost wax shape casting. A mold pattern is used to make a casting mold of the barrel body. The passageway device is then located into the mold and positioned to ensure that there is no interference. The mold is filled with molten metal that flows around the passageway device and encapsulates it into the barrel body. The mold gates are removed, and the casting is ready for machining.
