The system also includes a computing system configured to control an operation of the arm to move a position of the electromagnetic radiation beam relative to a three-dimensional surface of the component such that material is ablated from a coating on the three-dimensional surface to form the slot pattern in the coating.

The resulting ceramic coating has improved resistance to CMAS infiltration and improved compliance resulting in an increased life of the coated component.
