    Abstract: This invention discloses a method and apparatus for managing lighting systems is disclosed. The method comprises performing a training phase for a plurality of settings wherein the training is represented by statistical parameters associated with a statistical model and then performing a monitoring phase to monitor the lighting system, determining whether characteristics of the monitored lighting system correspond to the model obtained during the training phase and determining an error exists when the monitored lighting system is not within tolerance values of the statistical parameters.

When the first-order cyclostationary property is used, the received signal is upsampled by a factor of N, a synchronous averaging of a set of M segments of the upsampled received signal is performed, an autocorrelation of the signal is performed; and the presence of peaks in the output of the autocorrelation function is detected. When the second order cyclostationary property of the signal is used, the received signal is delayed by a fixed delay (symbol time), the received signal is multiplied with the delayed version, and a tone (single frequency) in the output is detected.

    Abstract: The system, apparatus and method of the present invention provides a single carrier block transmission with guard interval as a means of communications over multi-path channels that enables frequency domain equalization, and therefore, has many of the advantages of OFDM, but does not have some of the drawbacks such as high PAPR and the need for high resolution ADCs. While the use of guard intervals in single carrier communications enables low complexity detection of the signal, it reduces bandwidth efficiency. The present invention improves the bandwidth efficiency by adjusting the length of the guard interval adaptively. Also, by allowing both time-domain and frequency domain equalizations, besides improving bandwidth efficiency, the inventions allows for great flexibility in receiver design.

The dual-mode light sensor (106) measures and computes the amount of external light and electrical light incident on its sensing surface. The controllers (102, 103) use this information to optimally control the lighting condition to meet user requirements and reduce energy consumption. Both controllers (102, 103) operate concurrently and independently, but are linked via the dual-mode sensor (106).

The receiver needn't be aware of the change of sync sequence at the transmitter and can still use the original sync sequence. The design can be used in both DAA and non-DAA transmission modes.
