  • Publication number: 20070112897
Abstract: A managing computer (manager) manages replication of data areas inside a storage or among storages. A storage volume management module of the manager manages policy of the volume and its properties. When replication of a volume is set, a volume of a replication destination appropriate for a volume of a replication source is generated using the policy and the properties to form a replication pair. A route management module of the manager and its volume management module bring the policy and the properties of the volumes, and the policies and conditions of lines into conformity with one another. When any fault occurs in a line route used for data transfer during replication of the volume, a separate line route is utilized, and a fault countermeasure is taken for replication of the volumes in accordance with the policy and properties of the volumes.

  • Publication number: 20070055842
Abstract: A burden placed on an administrator in creating a volume is reduced. An evaluation hint value and a performance hint value are employed as hint values for each hint. The evaluation hint value is determined by the administrator considering a service usage and the like of the service server 1 to which the volume is allocated. The performance hint value is used to determine a performance and a setting of the volume to be created in the storage system 3. The management server 2 has a conversion table indicating a correspondence between the evaluation hint value defined considering the hardware configuration and the performance hint value, with respect to each storage system 3. The management server 2 converts the evaluation hint value designated by the administrator to a performance hint value, by use of the conversion table associated with the storage system to which the volume is to be created, and the management server creates the volume in the storage system 3 according to the performance value.

  • Patent number: 7188213
Abstract: In a computer system having hierarchically-arranged data storage apparatuses, a management computer provides information required for performing operation on the data storage apparatuses. Through a network for collecting management information, storage area information and hierarchy information are collected from each data storage apparatus. Management relation information is created using the collected storage area information and the collected hierarchy information together with programs for respectively managing the data storage apparatuses, and, the created management relation information is held. Based on the created management relation information, a display screen expressing the hierarchy of the data storage apparatuses is created. Further, responding to operation by a user, a return considering the hierarchy is displayed.

  • Publication number: 20060282636
Abstract: A related art has not taken account of the authority to manage the physical configuration of a storage system. Therefore, the configuration of a storage system cannot be safely managed. Moreover, storage systems to be used by administrators may be duplicate. The availability of an entire computer system is degraded due to stoppage of a storage system caused by scheduled maintenance or the like. Responsively to a manipulation a storage administrator performs in order to allocate or un-allocate a volume, the authority to manage the physical configuration of a storage system is given to the storage administrator or the storage administrator is deprived of the authority. Specifically, a volume allocation program installed in a management computer gives the storage administrator the authority to manage the physical configuration of a storage system, which includes a created volume, responsively to creation of the volume.

  • Patent number: 7103665
Abstract: A resources managing program is provided on a computer network for converting a resources allocation request issued from a user into a setup request adapting to the type of storage systems that are resources on the network. Computer network interface type information is added to the address of each resources unit of the storage systems and stored as a part of management object information that a resources managing program holds for management. The request received is converted into a setup request adapting to the type of the interface.

  • Publication number: 20060085388
Abstract: The present invention provides a high-performance storage access environment to a user who moves around a wide area, while increasing the fault resistance of the system. A plurality of network storages (volumes) is assigned to the user. Then, at the occasion of logging in to a volume by the user, the volume that can be accessed with high performance from a position he made access is located. Addresses at a computer with which user makes access are associated with addresses of the volumes provided by a storage device in advance in an assigned volume management table so as to increase access performance. Then, a management server performs control so that the address of the volume associated with the user access position is returned as a response, at the time of logging in.
