Patent number: 10610410Abstract: Methods and systems for performing laser-assisted surgery on an eye form a layer of bubbles in the Berger's space of the eye to increase separation between the posterior portion of the lens capsule of the eye and the anterior hyaloid surface of the eye. A laser is used to form the layer of bubbles in the Berger's space. The increased separation between the posterior portion of the lens capsule and the anterior hyaloid surface can be used to facilitate subsequent incision of the posterior portion of the lens capsule with decreased risk of compromising the anterior hyaloid surface. For example, the layer of bubbles can be formed prior to performing a capsulotomy on the posterior portion of the lens capsule.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2018Date of Patent: April 7, 2020Assignee: AMO Development, LLCInventors: Georg Schuele, Julian Stevens, Dan E. Patent number: 10603215Abstract: A system and method for treating ophthalmic target tissue, including a light source for generating a beam of light, a beam delivery system that includes a scanner for generating patterns, and a controller for controlling the light source and delivery system to create a dosimetry pattern of the light beam on the ophthalmic target tissue. One or more dosage parameters of the light beam vary within the dosimetry pattern, to create varying exposures on the target tissue. A visualization device observes lesions formed on the ophthalmic target tissue by the dosimetry pattern. The controller selects dosage parameters for the treatment beam based upon the lesions resulting from the dosimetry pattern, either automatically or in response to user input, so that a desired clinical effect is achieved by selecting the character of the lesions as determined by the dosimetry pattern lesions.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2018Date of Patent: March 31, 2020Assignee: Topcon Medical Laser Systems, Inc.Inventors: Daniel V. Publication number: 20200096714Abstract: An optical switch incorporated in a photomedical system, and a method of treating tissue using the optical switch for creating pulsed light. A light source generates an optical beam. An aperture element includes a light-transmitting portion and a light-blocking portion. An optical element such as a mirror, prism or lens directs the optical beam to the aperture element, wherein the optical element is movable for translating the optical beam across the light-transmitting and light-blocking portions of the aperture element, or changing its angle of incidence through the aperture to produce one or more pulses of light from the optical beam. A lens focuses the one or more pulses of the optical beam onto target tissue. A controller controls the movement of the optical element to produce the one or more pulses of light.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 16, 2019Publication date: March 26, 2020Applicant: TOPCON MEDICAL LASER SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Michael W. Wiltberger, Dan E. Andersen, David H. Mordaunt

Publication number: 20190167472Abstract: A laser indirect ophthalmoscope (LIO) apparatus for photomedical treatment and/or diagnosis is presented. The LIO apparatus allows multiple spot ophthalmic surgery to be performed in a wider range of patient positions and less intrusively than currently available methods. The LIO apparatus utilizes a separate or integral beam multiplier that generates one or more optical beams via spatial and/or temporal separation, and an optical system that conditions and directs the one or more optical beams to a target to form a pattern. The LIO apparatus includes a headset, and is therefore wearable by the user (e.g., a physician).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 2, 2019Publication date: June 6, 2019Inventors: Dan E.
