  • Patent number: 7981109
Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods for an interface for providing a user with feedback are presented. Specifically, embodiments of such an interface may include a head-up display unit which is mounted on a microscope utilized by a user when performing a surgical procedure. The heads-up display unit may include an eye-piece ring which is fitted onto or in one of the eye pieces of the microscope. The heads-up unit receives data regarding one or more parameters from a surgical console or other source and produces audio or visual feedback corresponding to a desired parameter. Any visual feedback produced may then be propagated to the eye piece ring allowing a user of the microscope to obtain the feedback when performing a surgical procedure utilizing the microscope and obviating the need to look at a screen of the surgical console to obtain such feedback. Thus, feedback is provided to a user in a non-intrusive manner such that the user can obtain this feedback without distracting from a surgical procedure.

  • Patent number: 7981510
Abstract: Compartmentalized chips of at least two chemically similar crystallizable thermoplastic polymers each having a different intrinsic viscosity placed in separate zones are disclosed. These compartmentalized chips exhibit thermal characteristics that are different from the traditional technique of homogeneously combining the two materials into the chip. These compartmentalized chips in their amorphous, crystalline and solid phase polymerized forms exhibit a longer crystallization half time than the homogeneous mixture, thus permitting faster injection cycle times.

  • Patent number: 7982868
Abstract: A method for detecting one or more foreign substances in one or more containers filled with liquid, comprising of: transporting the containers filled with liquid in a substantially straight line at relatively high speed in a production environment; —illuminating each container with content with one or more fixedly disposed light sources; and —inspecting the container with content from preferably two or more different orientations using two or more cameras, wherein cameras and lighting are disposed substantially fixedly relative to each other, while the cameras and light sources are mutually connected such that in a short time two or more images of a container filled with liquid can be recorded with mutually differing illumination and/or angle of incidence; —comparing the foreign substances in the two or more images; and —wherein a container filled with liquid is rejected on the basis of the probability distribution obtained from the comparisons, wherein above a determined probability it is concluded that the

  • Publication number: 20110172404
Abstract: A self-assembly nanodevice formed through nucleic acid engineering is disclosed. The nanodevice may include an array of nanoparticles. The nanodevice may further include a substrate that supports the array of nanoparticles. Each of the nanoparticles may be coordinated with a plurality of nucleic acids that are substantially free of Watson-Crick base-paring with nucleic acids coordinated with other nanoparticles. Methods of forming the nanodevice, as well as the microscopic organization of the nanoparticles are also disclosed. By manipulating the nucleic acids as capping ligands, the inter-particle distance may be extended to a greater range than nanotechnology based on alkyl ligands or nucleic acids base-pairing.

  • Publication number: 20110171047
Abstract: An electrical submersible pump has a pump assembly joined to a seal section. The pump assembly shaft, which may experience upthrust axial forces, may joined to the seal section shaft by a detachable coupling. The detachable coupling may have splines on its inner diameter that engage splines on the outer diameters of the pump assembly shaft and the seal section shaft. The detachable coupling can be bolted to one of the shafts. Locking members, such as plates, can be inserted through slots on the coupling to engage a recess on one of the shafts. A retaining device, such as a sleeve, can be used to hold the locking members in place.

  • Publication number: 20110170068
Abstract: A method to enable the use of hand-held mobile devices for self-examination of opacities in the eye. Specifically, an image of a pinhole light source is created on the screen of a mobile device. The user then holds the screen of the mobile device close to the eye such that the pinhole image is along the optical axis of the eye. A detailed image of opacities in the eye is thus formed on the retina. The following features are used for optimizing the image of opacities: The light intensity of the pinhole image is adjustable. The pinhole image can be pulsed. The location of the pinhole image on the screen can be changed.

  • Publication number: 20110172972
Abstract: A method and a system are provided for determining if a liquid product comprising a container which holds a body of liquid is a security threat. Attenuation data conveying information about attenuation of X-rays resulting from interaction of X-rays with the body of liquid is derived by scanning the liquid product with X-rays. Container characterization data is then processed to derive path length data indicative of an approximate length of a path followed by X-rays through the body of liquid and that interact with the body of liquid. The security threat of a liquid product is determined by processing the path length data and the attenuation data.

  • Publication number: 20110170227
Abstract: An anchor group anchors organic dielectric compounds used in the production of organically based capacitors. The capacitors referred to are those that can be produced in a parallel process on a prepeg or other common printed circuit board substrate without additional metallisation on copper. The pre-fabricated capacitor layer can then be built into the printed circuit board, thereby gaining on space and cost for the surface of the printed circuit board.

  • Publication number: 20110173544
Abstract: An online service provider (OSP) operates online data centers to store members' data objects relating to various online member services of the OSP. An aggregated catalog lists members' data objects residing in the online data centers and also those residing in member computers' local storage. An aggregator monitors contents of the online storage facilities to detect new storage of prescribed types of data objects owned by the members, and also communicates with member computers to identify prescribed types of data objects newly stored in the respective local storage. The aggregator updates the aggregated catalog to list the newly stored data objects. Responsive to a request by a member, a finder searches the aggregated catalog and utilizes results of the search to provide, for display at the requesting member's computer, a consolidated listing of online data objects and locally stored data objects owned by the requesting member.
