  • Patent number: 8699412
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described herein that facilitate cell barring based on erroneous messages received within a wireless communication system. As described herein, in the event that a device fails to receive and/or decode respective messages transmitted from a network cell over a common communication channel, the device can implement one or more error handling procedures as described herein to reselect away from the network cell and/or a frequency associated with the network cell (e.g., as if the network cell was explicitly barred). Cell barring can be triggered as described herein based on a count of erroneous messages (e.g., consecutive messages, messages received within a predetermined time window, etc.), elapsed time between erroneous messages, or the like. Further, cell barring can be performed as described herein based on failure to acquire pre-scheduled system information, common system information determined to have invalid abstract syntax, or the like.

  • Patent number: 8660097
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for service continuity in a communication network. A method includes receiving a service in a first network coverage area, detecting entry into a second coverage area, acquiring control signaling information of the second coverage area in response to entering into the second coverage area, establishing traffic channels in the second coverage area while the service is received from the first coverage area, and switching to receive the service on the traffic channels in the second coverage area so that service disruption is minimized. Another method includes receiving a service in a first network coverage area, acquiring control signaling information associated with other coverage areas while in the first coverage area, detecting entry into a second coverage area, establishing traffic channels in the second coverage area, and switching to receive the service on the traffic channels in the second coverage area so that service disruption is minimized.

  • Publication number: 20140016491
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for reporting signal quality in overlapping Multimedia Broadcast Single Frequency Networks (MBSFN) areas. A UE may determine a signal quality estimate for each of two or more overlapping MBSFN areas based on Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) information and Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) information for the MBSFN area. The UE may then determine a combined signal quality based on the signal quality estimates of the MBSFN areas.

  • Publication number: 20130258934
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus receives a user service description (USD) message. When a frequency indicated in the USD message is not a current frequency, the apparatus determines that a system information message is received, determines that the frequency indicated in the USD message is included in the system information message, determines that the frequency is a neighboring cell frequency, sets a priority of the frequency to a highest priority, and measures a signal strength of the frequency when the frequency is included in the system information message, performs a cell reselection determination procedure based on the signal strength of the frequency, performs cell reselection to the neighboring cell based on a result of the cell reselection determination procedure, and acquires the multicast service in the neighboring cell on the frequency.

  • Publication number: 20130254611
Abstract: This application relates to systems and methods for recovering data in multimedia file segments. A communication device may receive a multimedia file segment that includes damaged data. The communication device may replace the damaged data with dummy data to reconstruct the multimedia file segment. The communication device may then play the reconstructed multimedia file segment. Thus, by replacing the damaged data with dummy data, the communication device may play a multimedia file segment even when part of the segment may be damaged.

  • Patent number: 8489092
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate collecting consistent system information when entering a cell during cell selection and/or cell re-selection in a wireless communication environment. SIB(s) can be received while lacking modification period information (e.g., modification period boundary, modification period duration, . . . ). Further, the SIB(s) can be stored in memory with corresponding SFN(s) at which the SIB(s) are respectively received. Thereafter, the modification period information can be identified (e.g., from a SIB2, . . . ). Moreover, an evaluation can be effectuated to determine whether to retain or discard the SIB(s) from memory as a function of the modification period information and the corresponding SFN(s). Further, whether to retain or discard the SIB(s) from memory can be based upon a value tag.

  • Publication number: 20130155881
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided for prioritizing the performance of measurements during measurement gaps and the reception of multicast/broadcast content. The apparatus receives a configuration from a serving cell to perform a measurement during a measurement gap of a unicast service while in a connected mode. In addition, the apparatus determines whether to refrain from leaving the serving cell on a first frequency and performing the measurement on a second frequency of a neighboring cell in order to receive multicast/broadcast content associated with a multicast/broadcast service during the measurement gap.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure propose techniques for independently signaling features supported by a user equipment (UE) in different duplexing modes. The UE may be capable of communicating in frequency division duplexing (FDD) and time division duplexing (TDD) modes. The UE may obtain a FDD-specific feature group indicators (FGIs) set and a TDD-specific FGIs set, and signal at least one of the FDD-specific FGIs set or TDD-specific FGIs set. In addition, the UE may take one or more actions to reduce the likelihood of transitioning to a mode of operation that is different from its current mode of operation.
