  • Patent number: 5391374
Abstract: A fragrance-delivery composition is provided having cake-forming components and microcapsules containing fragrance oil. The composition is a coherent cake, and has a VOC content less than 250 grams of per liter less water, fragrance oil and exempt solvents.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 10, 1993
Date of Patent: February 21, 1995
Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Jack W. Charbonneau, Daniel B. Pendergrass, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5325721
Abstract: Disclosed is a device for selectively indicating strain comprising a layer of polymeric binder and, distributed in or adjacent to the binder layer, microcapsules containing an indicating means, whereby when the binder is stiff, minor flexure of the device causes rupture of the microcapsules and releases the indicating means. This device has a non-stiff state such that a given strain applied to the binder layer in the non-stiff state will not release the indicating means, and a stiff state such that the same given strain applied to the binder layer in the stiff state will release the indicating means. Also disclosed is a method for determining exposure of an article to a given low temperature.

  • Patent number: 5169632
Abstract: Microcapsules containing a shell wall and a liquid fill are produced by an interfacial polymerization reaction between a polyfunctional aziridine and at least one other polyfunctional organic coreactant selected from the group of polyacid halides, polycarboxylic acids, polyamines, polyhydroxyl-containing compounds, polythiol-containing compounds, polyisocyanates, polyisothiocyanates, and mixtures thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 28, 1991

Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
Inventors: Bradley L. Duell, Daniel B. Pendergrass, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5128215
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic support with at least one magnetic layer comprising a magnetizable pigment dispersed in a binder composition. The binder composition of the present invention comprises a block copolymer, having a hard segment, with a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) of greater than about 70.degree. C., and a soft segment, having a T.sub.g of less than about -30.degree. C. The binder composition of the present invention has relatively stable physical properties over a range of temperatures, preferably at least 50.degree. C. at more preferably at least 100.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4935401
Abstract: A sheet is provided which upon abrasion of one surface will reveal a preprinted message without removal of a cover layer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 10, 1987

  • Patent number: 4878775
Abstract: A device provides liquid material for application to a surface. The device comprises in order at least a carrying substrate, frangible microcapsules containing the liguid to be applied, a raised area around the microcapsules of a structurally rigid material, and a flexible, liquid permeable material overlaying the microcapsules. Pressure on the liquid permeable material ruptures the microcapsules and enables the liquid to flow through the permeable material.

Inventors: R. James Norbury, Daniel B. Pendergrass, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4490505
Abstract: In the manufacture of magnetic recording media, coatings are applied from water-borne dispersions of inorganic particles, a polymer containing functional groups and an agent for crosslinking the polymer, the crosslinking agent being a polyfunctional aziridine such as ##STR1##

Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company
    Inventor: Daniel B. Pendergrass, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4087181
Abstract: A plunger assembly for pressing together two smooth layers of material against a firm planar supporting surface without entrapping air between the layers. The assembly includes a soft resilient pad having adjacent surfaces disposed at an obtuse angle and meeting at a ridge. The pad is pressed against the material to first engage the ridge and then the adjacent surfaces progressively outwardly from the ridge to sweep air from between the layers of the material.
