Abstract: The present invention relates to a locking mechanism and method of locking the relative positions of a fixation device like a bone screw and of a stabilization device like a rod. The locking mechanism includes a seat, a washer and a cap. The seat includes a bottom portion configured to receive the fixation device such that a socket of the bottom portion engages part of the fixation device and prevents the fixation device from passing entirely therethrough. The seat further includes a side portion configured to receive the stabilization device, a washer and a cap. When the washer and cap are fully engaged with the seat, the fixation device may be locked independent of the stabilization device. The locking mechanism may also include a locking element for locking the stabilization device.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a locking mechanism and method of fixation, such as the fixation of a fixation device like a bone screw and of a stabilization device like a rod to the spine. Abstract: A shader program capable of execution on a GPU is analyzed for constant expressions. These constant expressions are replaced with references to registers or memory addresses on the GPU. A preshader is created that comprises two executable files. The first executable file contains the shader program with the each constant expression removed and replaced with a unique reference accessible by the GPU. The first file is executable at the GPU. A second file contains the removed constant expressions along with instructions to place the values generated at the associated reference. The second executable file is executable at a CPU. When the preshader is executed, an instance of the first file is executed at the GPU for each vertex or pixel that is displayed. One instance of the second file is executed at the CPU. As the preshader is executed, the constant expressions in the second file are evaluated and the resulting intermediate values are passed to each instance of the first file on the GPU.

Abstract: A mattress component and method of making a mattress component is provided. The mattress component includes first and second layers to be assembled in a mattress over which a user will lie. The first layer of a first material has different properties than the second layer of a second material. The second layer has a surface underlying the surface of the first layer. Mating patterns are formed in the surfaces of the first and second layers. The mating patterns in the first and second layers are designed to substantially match the surfaces of the first and second layers with each other. The mating patterns in the first and second layers result in a greater effective thickness in one of the layers in areas corresponding to a position where hips and shoulders of the user will rest on the mattress, and a lesser effective thickness in other areas.

Abstract: The present invention relates to compounds according to formula (I) as disclosed herein as well as pharmaceutical compositions which include those compounds. Also disclosed are methods of using such compounds, which have activity as agonists or as antagonists of LPA receptors; such methods including inhibiting LPA activity on an LPA receptor, modulating LPA receptor activity, treating cancer, enhancing cell proliferation, and treating a wound.

Abstract: A method of processing an auditable age record for an animal. The method includes acquiring an image of select teeth of the animal and associating a date the image was acquired with the image. In addition, the method includes acquiring an image of a specific biometric characteristic of the animal and generating an identification record from the biometric characteristic. In particular, an identification record may be generated from an image of the ocular fundus of the animal. The method also includes creating an auditable age record from input which includes at least the dated image of the select teeth of the animal and the identification record.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an access device is inserted through an incision in skin of a patient. The access device is expanded from a first configuration to a second configuration, the second configuration having an enlarged cross-sectional area at a distal portion of said access device such that the distal portion extends across at least a portion of the interbody space. A prosthetic spinal disc implant is then delivered through the access device.

Abstract: A delay circuit. In one embodiment, a programmable logic device (PLD) is used to implement one or more delay circuits having a plurality of delay elements. Included in the plurality of elements are a balanced number of logic elements such that rising and falling edges of a signal passing through the delay circuit propagate with substantially the same amount of delay. The delay circuit may also include a selector circuit coupled to select an output from one of the plurality of delay elements. The delay circuit may be implemented such that it preserves the duty cycle and/or pulse width of signals to which the delay is applied.

Abstract: A log construction, such as a log home or log cabin. The construction includes a plurality of horizontal logs extending between vertical log posts. A cap log can extending across a length of at least three vertical log posts. The load of the structure, particularly the roof, is supported by the vertical log posts. The ends of the horizontal logs abut and are preferably secured to the vertical posts. In one embodiment, old or dead logs, rather than green logs, are used in the construction.

Abstract: A combination heat exchanger and oxygenator device is provided. The device includes a generally cylindrical housing having first and second compartments with hollow heat exchange tubes and hollow gas exchange tubes disposed therein, a blood inlet, a blood outlet, a heat exchanges medium inlet, a heat exchange medium outlet, an oxygenating fluid inlet and an oxygenating fluid outlet. The housing has a central axis with the second compartment being concentric thereto. The blood flow passage is defined by blood entering the device generally axially through a path extending along the central axis of the housing and flows generally radially through the second, oxygenating compartment.

Abstract: A web of material, typically paper, metal or film and most commonly roll photographic plate material, passes between a first, driven, roller made from material with a high coefficient of friction, typically neoprene rubber, and a second, driven, roller made from material with a low coefficient of friction, typically metal or nylon. The high-friction drive roller (only) is positionally adjustable. The web is driven straight ahead, without appreciable undesirable steering or skew, over a broad range of adjustments of the separation, and the parallelism, between the two rollers. The web motion is responsive substantially to only the high-friction drive roller, and the web speed may accordingly be regulated, including so as to be maintained highly uniform, in response to the drive roller (only).

Abstract: A compact, cylindrical integrated blood heater/oxygenator in which the blood flows transversely to the axial direction of hollow heat exchange and oxygenation fibers. Blood enters a longitudinally extending central chamber of the blood heater/oxygenator, and moves radially through annular hollow heat exchange and oxygenation fiber bundles in a direction generally perpendicular to the axis of the device and generally transverse to the axial direction of the fibers. The blood proceeds toward the outer wall of the oxygenator where the temperature is adjusted and oxygenated blood is collected and passed out of the oxygenator through an exit port.

Abstract: A device having a blood oxygenator and heat exchanger of the outside perfusion type. The blood oxygenator employs a tightly packed, crisscrossing bundle of gas permeable hollow fibers. The heat exchanger employs a bundle of polyurethane, liquid impermeable hollow tubes. A center divider facilitates two separate compartments and allows control over pack densities within each compartment while allowing blood to move in a planar manner throughout the device.
