  • Publication number: 20150299412
Abstract: Thiol-acrylate copolymers are disclosed that are useful, for example, as injectable biomaterials to provide both mechanical support and biological cues to stimulate bone regrowth. Composites can be formed, for example incorporating hydroxyapatite crystal inclusions into the copolymer. In one embodiment, the composite is gas-foamed with a blowing agent during or before cure to form a porous, interconnected scaffold. The synthesis employs an amine-catalyzed Michael addition co-polymerization of a poly-thiol with a poly-acrylate. The catalyst is an in situ catalyst, such as a tertiary amine moiety that is covalently bonded to one of the reactants, preferably to the poly-acrylate. The materials can rapidly co-polymerize in vivo or in vitro via catalysis by the “attached” in situ tertiary amine groups.

  • Publication number: 20100205640
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to a method, system and computer-readable medium for conveying audio/video information. The method detects a presence of at least one automobile and communicates such presence to an information system comprising a number of display devices (DN) and an information processing unit. The processing unit contains a library of audio/video portions, each audio/video portion having a total run time (VTL), where each audio/video portion is divisible into segments (VN) having a segment run time (VSL) such that VN?DN and VTL÷Dn=VSL. The processing unit estimates a total viewing time (TV) to provide the audio/video information; parses the audio/video information into DN separate segments; and selects one parsed audio/video portion such that VTL of the selected audio/video portion is substantially equal to TV. The selected audio/video segments are communicated to the display devices.

  • Publication number: 20080135826
Abstract: This invention presents a novel method to form uniform or heterogeneous, straight or curved and size-controllable nanostructures including, for example, nanotubes, nanowires, nanoribbons, and nanotapes, including SiNW, using a nanochannel template. In the case of semiconductor nanowires, doping can be included during growth. Electrode contacts are present as needed and may be built in to the template structure. Thus completed devices such as diodes, transistors, solar cells, sensors, and transducers are fabricated, contacted, and arrayed as nanowire or nanotape fabrication is completed. Optionally, the template is not removed and may become part of the structure. Nanodevices such as nanotweezers, nanocantilevers, and nanobridges are formed utilizing the processes of the invention.

  • Publication number: 20080021565
Abstract: This invention provides for a novel orthopedic prosthesis, specifically a prosthetic tibial component for a prosthetic total knee joint, that comprises two constructs, one being a metal base construct that engages the bone and the other being a polyethylene bearing construct that attaches to the metal base construct and articulates with a femoral prosthetic component on the opposing side of the joint. The metal base construct is composed of two different metals, one of which engages the bone surface and the other of which engages the polyethylene bearing construct. Each of these metals is selected so that its characteristics are well suited to its particular function. More particularly, the first metal (i.e., the one that engages the bone surface) is selected so as to provide a superior bone-engaging face, while the second metal (i.e., the one that engages the polyethylene bearing construct) is selected so as to provide a superior polyethylene-engaging face.
