Publication number: 20180025563Abstract: An access control system utilizes authorized users' mobile electronic devices for transmitting biometric identifiers in combination with using an access card for authenticating the user's access privileges for unlocking a secure door. The system may further verify proximity of the user's device to the access control reader, which verifies correspondence of the access card with the transmitted biometric characteristics. The system may further require entry of a PIN into the user's device, for its transmission to the access control system for access confirmation. A scanner scans the area around its geographic location for signals emitted by mobile electronic devices, and identifies a position, a type, and an address of each device, using characteristics of the signals. Audio analytics detect/identify a position of sudden sound fluctuations indicating a gunshot/fight incident, and correlates the incident location to a device location. Video analytics correlate imaged people with detected electronic devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 21, 2017Publication date: January 25, 2018Inventors: Daniel Kerning, Dharmesh Patel

Publication number: 20130260351Abstract: A system that delivers a sequence of learning objectives to a student in accordance with one or more target dates. The target dates may be set by an academic institution, a teacher, or a parent of the student. The system adjusts the sequence of learning objectives based on the target dates assigned to one or more of the learning objectives. The system estimates how long it will take for the student to progress through a sequence of learning objectives and notifies an administrator if the student is behind schedule. The notification to the administrator may include recommendations for remedial actions.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2013Publication date: October 3, 2013Inventors: Lorenzo Pasqualis, Nigel Green, Daniel Kerns

Publication number: 20060036847Abstract: A technique is disclosed that allows different computers in a network to create an identifier that uniquely identifies the network. The technique allows the unique identifier to be consistently created over time, regardless of the particular make up of the computing devices in the network at any particular point time. In some implementation, a computer within the network hosts the identification creation tool. In order to create a unique identifier for the network, the tool identifies each network adapter used by the host computer. Using this information, the tool identifies a gateway device used by the network adapter or adapters, and then determines the physical network address of that gateway device. For example, if the network is an Ethernet network, the tool will determine the medial access control (MAC) address for the gateway device. The tool then creates a unique identifier for the network based upon the physical address.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 10, 2004Publication date: February 16, 2006Applicant: Pure Networks, Inc.Inventors: Steven Bush, Thomas Butcher, Harry Heymann, Daniel Kerns, Roxanne Skelly

Patent number: 6301517Abstract: An automated monitoring and notification system for use with a testing arrangement is able to identify “potentially faulty test sockets”. The system uses a set of pre-existing data contained in a manufacturing database regarding the number of device failures for each socket. A threshold number of consecutive device failures is used to flag a particular test socket as “suspect”. Another database, containing historical “failure” data for the test sockets is then queried upon identification of each “suspect”. When the number of “failures” for a “suspect” exceeds a predetermined threshold, the socket is identified as “potentially faulty” and an alarm is sent to the system user.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1999Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Patrick J. Doran, Daniel Kern

Patent number: 6240398Abstract: A method and system for assigning a classification to a device having a set of qualifying classifications. The method includes the steps of obtaining an inventory count for each classification of device included in the set of qualifying classifications, comparing the inventory count for each such classification to a safety stock number, and assigning a classification to the device from among the classifications which have an inventory count less than the safety stock number. The method enables improved classification assignment with respect to both present demands and future, projected demand thereby more optimally utilizing and distributing inventory.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1999Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Aristotle B. Patent number: 6058676Abstract: A lid guide ensures that a lid is accurately positioned and oriented when it is lowered over and placed onto a tray used to hold electronic devices, for example, for transport between different stages in the manufacturing process, thereby helping to prevent damage to the devices that might otherwise result from physical contact with a lid that is placed onto the tray in a haphazard manner. A lid guide may have one or more openings, each of which may be keyed to restrict the tray and the lid to a single rotational orientation. In addition, channels may be provided in opposing walls of each opening in the lid guide to enable a technician to hold either a tray or a lid between a thumb and a finger when placing the tray onto the lid guide or the lid onto the tray.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1998Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Bruce C. Abraham, James F. Dormer, Patrick J. Drummond, Daniel Kern

Patent number: 6043443Abstract: Disclosed is a method for fabricating devices so that several devices at a time can be tested and sorted. The devices are placed in a carrier so that each device occupies a discrete position. The carrier includes an identification marker, and each device is identified by its position in the carrier. The carrier is sent to multiple assembly and/or testing stations, and data for each device is collected and stored in a central data base according to its position in the carrier. Each device may then be sorted according to the collected data and its position in the carrier.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Patrick J.
