Patent number: 9460263Abstract: The present invention provides an integrated health care surveillance and monitoring system that provides real-time sampling, modeling, analysis, and recommended interventions. The system can be used to monitor infectious and chronic diseases. When faced with outbreak of an infectious disease agent, e.g., influenza virus, the system can identify active cases through pro-active sampling in high risk locations, such as schools or crowded commercial areas. The system can notify appropriate entities, e.g., local, regional and national governments, when an event is detected, thereby allowing for proactive management of a possible outbreak. The system also predicts the best response for deployment of scarce resources.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2014Date of Patent: October 4, 2016Assignee: Theranos, Inc.Inventors: Elizabeth A. Holmes, Ian Gibbons, Daniel L. Young, Seth G. Michelson

Publication number: 20150297394Abstract: A self-heating warming blanket includes a pliable outer shell forming a liquid impermeable enclosure. A heat generation layer disposed inside the enclosure has a plurality of liquid permeable heater compartments containing an exothermic reactant. The blanket also has a heater activation system including a sealed bladder containing an activator liquid inside the enclosure. An activation strip extends from outside the outer shell into the enclosure. One segment of the strip is an unsealing segment connected to the bladder. Another segment of the strip is a handle segment outside the outer shell. Pulling on the handle segment opens the bladder and releases the activator liquid into the enclosure where at least a portion of it permeates at least one heater compartment and combines with the exothermic reactant contained therein to initiate an exothermic chemical reaction that heats the warming blanket.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2013Publication date: October 22, 2015Inventor: Daniel L. Young

Publication number: 20150289716Abstract: Instant temperature changing device includes reactant and activator liquid that generate an exothermic or endothermic chemical reaction when combined to heat or cool contents in the device. One temperature changing device includes an inner shell and an outer shell, an activator container, and a reaction chamber. Opening the activator container causes reactant to combine with activator liquid and undergo an exothermic or endothermic reaction to initiate heat transfer to or from the contents disposed in the inner shell.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2013Publication date: October 15, 2015Inventor: Daniel L. Patent number: 8955676Abstract: Instant self-heating containers include a combinable reactant and activator used to generate an exothermic reaction for heating contents of the container. One instant self-heating container includes a target container, a pierceable activator container and a reaction chamber. Piercing the activator container causes activator to combine with the reactant and cause an exothermic reaction that heats the target container. The container may be used as depilatory wax dispenser. Another instant self-heating container includes an outer housing containing a contents pouch and a reactant, and capped by a lid having an activator chamber. Rupturing the activator chamber allows activator to combine with the reactant in an exothermic reaction to heat the contents pouch. Another instant self-heating container includes a flexible outer tube containing contents to be heated, a flexible reaction vessel, and a frangible activator vessel.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2013Date of Patent: February 17, 2015Assignee: Forever Young International, Inc.Inventor: Daniel L.
