  • Publication number: 20160269865
Abstract: A system and method for providing a communications link between an owner of a lost article and a person that finds the lost article. The method includes detecting at a communication device of the person that finds the lost article, a beaconing signal generated by an electronic beacon device when the communication device is in proximity of the communication device. The beaconing signal is associated with an owner of the electronic beacon device. The communication device may transmit, to a server, location information and identification information inherent within the beaconing signal. The server may return one or more communication options enabling a user of the communication device to contact the owner of the electronic beacon device. Such communication options may comprise, for example, voice communication, video communication or communication via text message. In one embodiment the communication options enable communication to occur while maintaining the anonymity of the owner.

  • Patent number: 9397394
Abstract: Techniques of designing an antenna array with antenna units controlled electronically are described. Each of the antenna units includes a reflector, a driven element and one or more directors. A substrate with conductive material on its surface provided to support the antenna array is designed to be the reflector. The driven element is separated into two halves with each on one side of a non-metal substrate vertically bonded to the conductive substrate. Two driving lines provided to drive the two halves of the driven element are disposed on both sides of the non-metal substrate to minimize possible interactions with other elements of the antenna unit or the antenna array.

  • Patent number: 9360479
Abstract: This invention describes a device for assaying a dry or small volume liquid sample on a lateral flow capillary assay by utilizing a supplementary non-sample aqueous solution that will push the sample up the assay without diluting or significantly diluting the original sample. This invention enables a sample to be assayed rapidly and/or on-site when the sample is in dried or solid form, or when the liquid volume is too small to complete an assay. As an option, the device can display a colored signal when a sufficient amount of liquid sample has been collected or added to the device. The minimal liquid volume requirement of the device significantly reduces the sample collection time to a matter of seconds and resolves situations in which fluids available for collection are not abundant. Therefore, this invention allows the lateral flow test device to be a more rapid, efficient, and versatile apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20160121546
Abstract: A composite film includes a substrate that is not responsive to relative humidity, and also one or more layers of hygromorphic material. The hygromorphic material expands in response to an increase in relative humidity and contracts in response to a decrease in relative humidity. In some cases, the composite film is bi-layer or tri-layer. The composite films are fabricated such that they undergo a desired bending pattern in response to changes in relative humidity. In some cases, these bending patterns are combinations of two bending primitives: a smooth curve and a sharply angled curve. These two primitives are combined to create a variety of shape transformations including 1D linear transformation, 2D surface expansion and contraction, 2.5D texture change and 3D folding. Any type of hygromorphic material may be employed, including living gram positive and gram negative bacterial cells, yeast cells, plant cells, mammalian cells, cell debris, or hydrogel.

  • Publication number: 20160095801
Abstract: A two-component tooth whitening system containing a bleaching gel and an activating gel, including that the system has both thermo- and foaming-stability for non-refrigerated storage. The admixing of the two components provides effective whitening and proper bubbling that enables oxygen and free radicals released to diffuse into tooth enamel, and thus, provides significant whitening efficacy.

  • Patent number: 9273012
Abstract: A straightforward single step method for the preparation and/or production of substituted quinazolines is disclosed, wherein said quinazolines preferably contain one substituent at position 4, and may contain other functional groups at various positions, such as 5, 6, 7, and/or 8 of quinazolines. In addition, the extension of this new method leads to the formation of different type of heterocyclic aromatic compounds, that include but are not limited to perimidines, anthrapyrimidin-7-ones (also known as anthrapyrimidinones), anthra[1,9:5,10]dipyrimidines (also known as quinazoline[5,4-ef]perimidines) and benzo[e]-pyrimido[4,5,6-gh]pyrimidines.

  • Publication number: 20150285717
Abstract: A system for isolating preselected cell types from a fluid sample that includes a plurality of cell types includes a cell-capture fluidic chip, and a chip holder configured to receive the cell-capture fluidic chip and to maintain the cell-capture fluidic chip with a substantially fluid-tight seal while in operation. The chip holder is further configured to release the cell-capture fluidic chip to be removed from the chip holder for further processing. The cell-capture fluidic chip includes a substrate, a laser micro-dissection membrane disposed on the substrate, and a channel-defining layer disposed on the laser micro-dissection membrane. The laser micro-dissection membrane has a surface adapted to capture preselected cell types preferentially over other cell types of the plurality of cell types. • Publication number: 20150244070
Abstract: Techniques of designing an antenna array with antenna units controlled electronically are described. Through controlling the combination of the reflectors in each of the antenna units, a desired antenna pattern is formed, adapting to the environment, and providing reliable and efficient links between two transceivers. According to one aspect of the present invention, a switch (e.g., a diode) is used to couple two reflectors. The diode is controlled to be on or off so that the reflectors are conductively integrated or separated.

  • Publication number: 20150079539
Abstract: A dental mixing device with a barrel, a mixing tip, and a plunger. The plunger moves dental material through the barrel where it is mixed using a mixing tip. The mixing tip includes an auto-aligning fitting female element configured to align with an auto-aligning fitting male element of the barrel. This auto-alignment simplifies the attachment between the mixing tip and the barrel. The mixing tip also includes a seal component with a soft material (or component) to insert into the auto-aligning fitting element which is a hard material (or component) to achieve seal. The seal component and auto-alignment fitting element can be combined together into one component instead of two components.
