  • Publication number: 20140320377
Abstract: Techniques of designing a smart antenna system are described. An antenna system includes at least two integrated antenna units arranged with a predefined angular angle therebetween to form a desired antenna pattern without any significant nulls. According to one aspect of the techniques, at least two sets of antenna units are interlaced but polarized differently to form an integrated antenna unit. Each of the antenna units is formed with an array of antennas. The antennas in an array or the antenna units in an integrated antenna unit can be selectively energized to form a desired antenna pattern in accordance with a signal determined from radio frequency signals communicated between a device equipped with the antenna system and another device (e.g., a Wi-Fi router in communication with a mobile device), where the desired antenna pattern provides an optimized antenna pattern to facilitate seamless or QoS communication between the two devices.

  • Patent number: 8736147
Abstract: One embodiment of a piezoelectric generator which uses fibrous piezoelectric sensors to harness energy from sound and vibrations. These sensors will be fitted into a multilayered base consisting of a sound reflecting layer and alternating layers of conductive and nonconductive materials. The sound reflecting layer will serve to increase energy generation efficiency when multiple sheets of the apparatus is used, and the alternating layers of conductive and nonconductive materials will collect electricity generated from the piezoelectric sensors. Once collected, this electricity will then be used to power appliances or be stored in a battery for future use. Other embodiments are described and shown.

  • Publication number: 20140134049
Abstract: This invention describes a design of a lateral flow assay device that detects dried chemicals or trice volume aqueous sample solutions, applicable for detecting body fluids and dried or liquid chemicals. The dried or aqueous samples on the sample loading area will contact with a secondary aqueous solution in described manner and flow to the reaction area. This invention enables a complete lateral flow assay while the sample volume itself is too small to accomplish a complete lateral flow test.

  • Publication number: 20100035205
Abstract: A disposable dental angle with a one-piece hollow housing, having the axis of its head section angled obtusely with respect to the axis of its tail section, is provided. The obtusely angled front aperture of the head section of the housing allows insertion of a driven rotor such that the driven rotor is positioned with an obtuse angle to the driving shaft in the end aperture of the tail section of the housing. The obtuse angle structure facilitates teeth cleaning operations by allowing the dental angle to easily reach all areas of the mouth and making practitioners feel more comfortable by allowing to maintain an ergonomically correct neutral wrist position and therefore reducing hand fatigue. A horseshoe-like snap retainer fits within the head section of the housing over the driven rotor to retain the rotor from coming out.

  • Publication number: 20090298120
Abstract: Methods and systems for producing glycoproteins having sialylated oligosaccharides are provided. The invention comprises the genetic engineered cells with a CMP-sialic acid transporter (CMP-SAT) gene so that the cells express the CMP-SAT protein or fragment thereof at an above endogenous levels. The increase in CMP-SAT expression allows for the increased transport of the CMP-sialic acid into the Golgi apparatus so as to obtain sialylation of glycoproteins at above endogenous levels. In particular, the methods and systems of the invention are useful for producing complex sialylated glycoproteins in mammalian cells of interest, for example Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells.

  • Publication number: 20090220910
Abstract: A disposable dental angle with a housing consisting of two sections is provided. The vertical aperture of the head section of the housing allows insertion of a driven rotor such that the driven rotor is properly positioned. The horizontal aperture of the tail section of the housing allows insertion of a driving shaft such that the driving shaft is properly positioned. The front stepped end of the tail section engages the horizontal aperture of the head section firmly such that the two sections form a right angle. This ensures that the gear of the driven rotor is properly coupled to the matching gear of the driving shaft. Hence the driving shaft transfers the rotation from a dental tool to the driven rotor for the purpose of tooth cleaning using a cleaning cup.
