Patent number: 8187205Abstract: A bodily fluid sampling device is operable to breach the skin surface and allow bodily fluid to emerge from the breach location. The bodily fluid sampling device further evaluates the amount of bodily fluid emerged from breach location and determines whether the amount is sufficient or insufficient for a particular purpose, such as sampling and testing. The determination is accomplished automatically without moving the device. The user may also intervene to perform a variety of tasks following the determination of the amount of bodily fluid.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2009Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Assignee: Roche Diagnostics Operations, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Wong, Christopher D. Patent number: 8159505Abstract: An efficient method of compositing planes onto a target surface using a computing device with graphics processing capability is disclosed. The method includes partitioning the target surface, on which planes are composited, into partitions. Each one of the partitions contains connected pixels to be formed by compositing an identical subset of the planes to be composited. Each partition is associated with a corresponding subset of the planes. Each partition and its corresponding set of associated planes are then provided to a graphics processor for composition, using exemplary software components including an application programming interface, a library and device driver software. An image is formed on the target surface by compositing each partition. Using the disclosed method, a single pass through stages of the graphics pipeline for the graphics processor is sufficient to composite multiple planes to form an image on the target surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2008Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: ATI Technologies ULCInventors: Jeffrey Cheng, Kenneth Man, Daniel Wong, Catalin Beju, Geoffrey Park, Iouri Kiselev

Publication number: 20120004521Abstract: An integrated lancing test strip device includes a lancet configured to form an incision in tissue and a test strip coupled to the lancet for analyzing body fluid. A retention mechanism acts as a detent to hold the lancet in a static position relative to the test strip before forming the incision. The retention mechanism is configured to release the lancet for retracting the lancet relative to the test strip to reduce smearing of body fluid by the lancet during collection of the fluid with the test strip. In one form, the retention mechanism includes breakable tabs that are broken to release the lancet, and the lancet is retracted via translational movement. The retention mechanism in another form includes one or more dimples that release the lancet when the lancet is retracted via rotational motion. In a further form, the entire integrated device is rotated to collect fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 8, 2011Publication date: January 5, 2012Inventors: Daniel Wong, Frank Chan

Publication number: 20110167486Abstract: Advertisements are served over the Internet to clients on demand. A client module executing on a client device fetches advertisements over the Internet from an advertisement server. The client module stores these advertisements in a cache on the client device. When an application executing on the client device needs to display an advertisement, instead of contacting the advertisement server directly, the application makes a call to the client module. The client module, instead of contacting the advertisement server immediately, determines whether the cache on the client device contains any advertisements that satisfy criteria specified by the application. If the cache does contain advertisements that satisfy the criteria, then the client module provides those advertisements to the application. Otherwise, then the client module requests criteria-satisfying advertisements from the advertisement server at that time, and provides at least one of those to the application.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 5, 2010Publication date: July 7, 2011Inventors: Kalyan Ayloo, Daniel Wong

Patent number: 7766846Abstract: Body fluid sampling device comprising a skin-piercing element having a collection zone for receiving body fluid, the device further comprising a fluid receiving means remotely spaced apart from the collection zone so that body fluid in the collection zone will not contact the fluid receiving means initially. The collection zone takes up a very small volume of body fluid of about 10 to 500 nl in a very short time period of less than 0.5 seconds. The fluid receiving means may have a test zone for performing an analytical reaction. Fluid sample from the collection zone is automatically or manually transported to the fluid receiving means to contact the fluid with the test zone.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2008Date of Patent: August 3, 2010Assignee: Roche Diagnostics Operations, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Wong, Paul Patel

Patent number: 7769247Abstract: A method and method and apparatus for data re-arrangement includes the steps of receiving output pixel coordinates (X, Y) and obtaining an input pixel offset value (?S, ?T), wherein the output pixel coordinate represents a location for a two dimensional matrix. The input pixel offset value is obtained in reference to initial input pixel coordinates (S, T) which may be received with the output pixel coordinates or calculated based on the input and/or output pixel coordinates. The input pixel offset value may be any type of representation that provides for a delta value, for example, (?S, ?T) may represent a shift representation for the offset within a matrix array. The method and apparatus for data re-arrangement further includes retrieving an input pixel based on the initial input pixel coordinates and the offset value.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2003Date of Patent: August 3, 2010Assignee: ATI Technologies ULCInventors: Daniel Wong, Henry Law

Patent number: 7705838Abstract: A wireless communication handset (100) having a movable housing portion (204) coupled to a housing portion (202) that rotates relative to the housing portion. The movable housing portion may be a ring that rotates from one position 200 to another position 300 relative to the housing. Rotation of the ring to a first position activates a first function. Indicia 210 disposed on the ring indicates the desired mode. Rotation of the ring to a second position activates a second mode corresponding to a second indicia on the ring. The ring is interchangeable with other rings (FIG. 5 through FIG. 7) having different indicia corresponding to different modes or functions. The software that corresponds to the different modes may be stored in a memory 104 of the device or downloaded to the device upon coupling the ring thereto.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2006Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Keith E. Publication number: 20100061648Abstract: A filter includes a conventional filtering block and a protection block. The conventional filtering block receives input values and provides filtered values. The protection block receives filtered values and a group of input values proximate the current input, to ensure that the output is lies within a range computed for the current input. The range is determined by the protection block based on the group of input values proximate the current input. Any algorithm or statistical function may be applied to the group of input values to determine the range. If a filtered value provided by the conventional filtering block is outside the range, then the protection block computes and outputs a value that is within the range. The filter may be used in temporal or spatial filtering of images and video to mitigate artifacts such as motion artifacts and static artifacts.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 8, 2008Publication date: March 11, 2010Applicant: ATI Technologies ULCInventors: Daniel Wong, Peter Cao
