  • Publication number: 20090299226
Abstract: A bodily fluid sampling device is operable to breach the skin surface and allow bodily fluid to emerge from the breach location. The bodily fluid sampling device further evaluates the amount of bodily fluid emerged from breach location and determines whether the amount is sufficient or insufficient for a particular purpose, such as sampling and testing. The determination is accomplished automatically without moving the device. The user may also intervene to perform a variety of tasks following the determination of the amount of bodily fluid.

  • Publication number: 20090222293
Abstract: A method and system are provided for using commodity databases for parallelized and scalable solutions in Internet advertising. In one example, the method includes receiving first-type data and second-type data from one or more web servers, partitioning the first-type data into a particular number of first-type partitions, partitioning the second-type data into second-type partitions, wherein there are a same number of second-type partitions as the particular number of first-type partitions, sorting each first-type event by a second-type timestamp, opening second-type event files and finding first-type event matches, generating annotated second-type data by annotating each second-type event file with data from matching first-type events, and optimizing an advertising model based on the annotated second-type data.

  • Publication number: 20090192409
Abstract: Body fluid sampling device comprising a skin-piercing element having a collection zone for receiving body fluid, the device further comprising a fluid receiving means remotely spaced apart from the collection zone so that body fluid in the collection zone will not contact the fluid receiving means initially. The collection zone takes up a very small volume of body fluid of about 10 to 500 nl in a very short time period of less than 0.5 seconds. The fluid receiving means may have a test zone for performing an analytical reaction. Fluid sample from the collection zone is automatically or manually transported to the fluid receiving means to contact the fluid with the test zone.

  • Publication number: 20090167785
Abstract: A device and method of forming a video frame from a video stream made up of a multiplexed plurality of sub-streams is disclosed. The method includes forming a foreground plane, forming a mask that represents opaque pixels in the foreground plane, and forming an underlying plane from at least one of the sub-streams and extracting a transparency value associated with each pixel in the foreground and underlying planes. Only those pixels in the underlying and foreground planes not covered by the mask, are blended in accordance with their associated transparency value in a buffer. The buffer is populated with opaque pixels from the foreground plane, at pixel locations corresponding to the mask.

  • Publication number: 20090168882
Abstract: A method and apparatus to improve motion prediction in video processing systems is introduced. When a motion prediction cache completes requesting data for a current macroblock and enters an into idle state, data comprising one or more reference frames is speculatively requested, with the hope that the requested data are will be needed in a subsequent macroblock. If the speculative data is needed, then it is consumed. However, if the speculative data is not needed, then the correct data must be requested and a price is paid for an extra memory read bandwidth. In case the speculative data is the correct data for the subsequent macroblock, the effective memory read latency is reduced and the decode performance increases. The video decoder becomes more immune to memory read latency.

  • Publication number: 20090131828
Abstract: A body fluid sampling device is used to sample a bodily fluid from an incision in skin. The device includes a housing that defines a sample cavity with one open end that contacts skin. The device also includes a lancing mechanism that forms an incision in the skin. A vacuum mechanism is used to create a vacuum inside the sample cavity to express fluid from the incision site. To release the vacuum, a valve is connected with the sample cavity to exchange atmospheric air and further works to minimize fluid splatter. The fluid sample can then be tested or analyzed as desired.

  • Publication number: 20090037239
Abstract: A tool that allows internet advertisers to examine the popularity of various different keyphrases entered into a search engine over time is presented. The tool then allows the advertiser to specify a changing set of keyphrases that will be monitored and used to trigger the selection of internet advertisements. In this manner, internet advertisers can take advantage of the different keyphrases used by search engine users that tend to change over time.

  • Publication number: 20090036797
Abstract: A lancet enclosed in a sterility sheet forms a lancet packet to maintain the sterility of the lancet and prevent the lancet from unintentionally piercing the sterility sheet prior to lancet actuation. In one form, the lancet is immobilized by hot tack welding a portion of the sterility sheet to the lancet. Alternatively, portions of the sterility sheet are hot tack welded together through an opening in the lancet to limit movement of the lancet.

  • Patent number: 7397494
Abstract: This invention relates to an efficient way to calibrate and control a raster output scanner (ROS). The scan non-linearity of a ROS may be measured and an appropriate calibration curve setting for the ROS may be determined. The setting and other scan line parameters may then be used as an address to a memory, such as a read-only memory (ROM). The memory may store a set of calibration curve data and the address is used to look up the data from one of these curves. The ROS may then be controlled based on the calibration data retrieved from memory.

  • Patent number: 7384402
Abstract: An integrated body fluid sampling device is used to sample a body fluid from an incision in the skin of a body part. The device includes a lancet for forming the incision in the skin. A housing is coupled to the lancet. The housing defines at least in part a capillary channel with an opening. The capillary channel is sized to draw the body fluid from the incision via capillary action. An expression pad is coupled to the housing. The expression pad has opposing angled sides for compressing the backside of a body part where the incision is made. The lancet extends from the housing to form the incision. Fluid from the incision is drawn into the channel and is deposited on the test strip for analysis. A test strip is positioned along the capillary channel for analyzing the fluid.

  • Publication number: 20080065130
Abstract: An expression device includes an expressing cap that defines a lancet opening. The expression cap has a skin contacting surface that is generally flat and positioned to face tissue during expression of body fluid. The expression cap includes an elastomeric ring extending around the lancet opening from the skin contacting surface. The elastomeric ring is made from elastomeric material. The expression cap has a beveled surface between the lancet opening and the elastomeric ring to enhance expression of the body fluid when the expression cap is pressed around an incision site. It was discovered that when the beveled was angled at about 20°, expression of the body fluid was significantly enhanced.

  • Publication number: 20080046964
Abstract: A method for preventing intrusions in a database system is provided. When the database system receives a request to execute a database command, the database command is parsed to generate parsed information. Before executing the database command, the parsed information is evaluated against a set of rules. If the parsed information satisfies the conditions associated with a rule, the database system performs an action associated with the rule. The action may be an action designed to prevent intrusions, and may be performed instead of or in addition to executing the database command.
