  • Patent number: 7450631
Abstract: A receiver in a wireless communication system utilizes a metric to minimize the error probability in transmitted information. The receiver may use a detector utilizing multiuser detection or rake detection. The output symbols of the detector are examined and a metric is obtained related to the noise and interference that may have distorted the transmission of the symbol. This metric is supplied to a channel decoder along with the symbol to improve decoding.

  • Patent number: 7366259
Abstract: The present invention is a channel estimator based on the values of received data and on a priori probabilities only of received symbols. The channel estimator includes a symbol probability generator, a noise variance estimator and a channel tap estimator. The symbol probability generator generates a priori probabilities only of transmitted symbols found in the received signal(s). The noise variance estimator estimates at least one noise variance corrupting the received signal(s). The channel tap estimator generates channel estimates from the received signal(s), the a priori probabilities and the noise variance(s).

  • Patent number: 7337204
Abstract: Linear transformations are carried out on a matrix that represents information such as an image or a communication. In an aspect, the matrix is processed to remove duplicate information. The duplicate information can be duplicate rows, or zero rows. • Publication number: 20070230546
Abstract: A signal processing apparatus to equalize a signal in a multipath channel, where the equalization is based upon forming a correlation vector and the inverse of a covariance matrix, where the covariance matrix is smaller in dimension than the correlation vector. In one embodiment, the signal processing apparatus forms an extended matrix from the inverse of the covariance matrix, equal in dimension to the correlation vector, by selecting one or more rows of the inverse covariance matrix and shifting the selected one or more rows to form the extended matrix. The extended matrix is multiplied by the correlation vector to provide filter weights to the equalizer. In some embodiments, filtering is performed by a sliding window correlator based upon the selected one or more rows of the covariance matrix, followed by filtering based upon the correlation vector.
