  • Patent number: 9172648
Abstract: A flow admission control module for IP traffic types monitors network topology and usage. A new flow is not admitted if it is determined that the flow would push the utilization of available bandwidth reserved for the traffic type on a link in the associated path beyond a predetermined threshold. The admission control module may, as a result of dynamic changes to network topology capacity, re-compute the link utilization for effected active flows The admission control module may also account for protection regimes in flow admission calculations.

  • Publication number: 20150281234
Abstract: A method includes receiving a request from a first user at a first device to set up a communication session with a second user at a second device, in response to the request, directing the first device to authenticate the first user with a third party authentication service, receiving an authentication result corresponding to the first user, verifying the authentication result using information from the third party authentication service, and in response to verifying the authentication result, establishing the communication session on behalf of the first user.

  • Patent number: 9118574
Abstract: The present invention provides for the delivery of presence information to a service node from a mobile terminal using a messaging service, such as the short messaging service. The mobile terminal is configured to communicate via a cellular network as well as via a terminal adaptor, which is coupled to a wireline telephony switch or a data access network to support telephony communications. A local wireless interface is provided between the mobile terminal and the terminal adaptor to support communications through the terminal adaptor. In operation, the mobile terminal will provide a messaging service message including presence information to the service node, wherein the presence information will bear on the ability of the mobile terminal to communicate with the terminal adaptor, and thus, facilitate communications through the terminal adaptor.

  • Patent number: 9111259
Abstract: The present invention relates to analyzing communications involving a given user and determining a ranked list of the most relevant contacts for the user based on the analysis. As subsequent communications are analyzed, the list may be updated in a systematic fashion to provide a dynamic and up-to-date ranking of the most relevant contacts for the user at any given time. By having access to an up-to-date, ranked list of their most relevant contacts, the user can more readily initiate communications with others and avoid searching or sorting through more traditional contact listings.

  • Patent number: 9106744
Abstract: In a click-to-call (C2C) communication environment, a web client of a computing terminal is configured to initiate a C2C call when a user selects a call tag provided in a web page being presented to the user. The call is intended to be established between a remote endpoint associated with the call tag and one of either the computing terminal or another terminal associated with the user. If the C2C call is directed to an automated system and placed in a queue or on hold, the present invention allows supplemental content intended for the user to be delivered to the web client from which the C2C call was initiated. The web client may present the supplemental content to the user.

  • Publication number: 20150208287
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for the automatic transfer of mobile calls between wireless packet switched (PS) and guaranteed service (GS) networks based on quality of service (QoS) measurements are disclosed. One method includes establishing a call over the PS or GS network. The method may further include monitoring a quality of service (QoS) parameter associated with the PS network, and comparing the QoS parameter to a minimum quality threshold. The method may further include receiving instructions to initiate a call transfer based upon the comparison of the QoS parameter to the minimum quality threshold.

  • Patent number: 9078174
Abstract: Calls are established with a single mobile terminal through either a wireless network or via a terminal adaptor over the PSTN or a packet network. The terminal adaptor and mobile terminal communicate via a local wireless interface. The mobile terminal may facilitate cellular calls via the wireless network as well as PSTN or packet-based calls via the terminal adaptor. The mobile terminal may initiate a handoff when it is involved in a call through the wireless network and within a communication zone of the terminal adaptor. The handoff will establish a connection between the wireless switch, which is currently supporting the call, and the mobile terminal through the terminal adaptor. Once the connection with the mobile terminal through the terminal adaptor is established, the call is transitioned to the new connection and the mobile terminal will transfer to the local wireless interface to support the call.

  • Patent number: 9042371
Abstract: The present invention provides an effective technique for routing calls to one or more telephony terminals through a traditional telephony line as well as via a packet network. A terminal adapter is provided at a customer premise and supports multiple telephony terminals, which may be associated with the same or different directory numbers. For incoming calls, the telephony switch will determine whether to route the call over the traditional telephony line or through the packet network to the terminal adapter, which will facilitate the connection with one or more of the telephony terminals. The incoming calls can be routed to a specific telephony terminal based on incoming call indicia. The terminal adapter can initiate outgoing calls from the supported telephony terminals over the traditional telephony line or via the packet network to the telephony switch. Whether incoming or outgoing calls are routed through the telephony line or the packet network depends on system configuration and existing conditions.

  • Patent number: 8995636
Abstract: The present invention allows a user to customize her personal conference bridge such that conference participants who connect to the bridge are provided conference information selected by the user. In particular, after each conference participant gains access to the personal conference bridge, the conference information is delivered to a terminal of the conference participant. Although the user associated with the personal conference bridge may be a conference participant, delivery of conference information to the user is optional. The conference information may be any type of media content, or information identifying the location of media content to present to the conference participants.

  • Patent number: 8964725
Abstract: The present invention provides a terminal adaptor and service node, which cooperate to allow a POTS-based telephone terminal to initiate calls to entities having addresses only associated with a packet network. When the telephone terminal initiates a call to the communication terminal, a reference number is provided to the terminal adaptor. The terminal adaptor will initiate a packet session with the communication terminal by sending an initiation message including the reference number to the service node. The service node will use the reference number to identify the corresponding address. With the address, the service node will aid in establishing the packet session between the terminal adaptor and the communication terminal. The terminal adaptor will support a traditional analog connection with the telephone terminal, and provide the requisite interworking between the analog connection and the packet session to support a call between the communication terminal and the telephone terminal.

  • Patent number: 8948160
Abstract: The present invention relates to providing services for circuit-switched calls from an Internet Protocol (IP) based packet network. In essence, a call originating from or intended for a subscriber that is served by a telephony switch, such as an end office or mobile switching center, in a circuit-switched network is intercepted and routed by the telephony switch to a service node via a subscriber emulator. The subscriber emulator acts as a liaison between the telephony switch of the circuit-switched network and the service node of the packet network. Preferably, the subscriber emulator presents itself to the service node as a user agent, which acts on behalf of a subscriber that is served the telephony switch. The service node provides any requisite processing of the call to implement services for the call.

  • Publication number: 20150010140
Abstract: An automated attendant system is made multimedia capable by adding a combined user agent to the automated attendant. A search is done to verify that the caller to the automated attendant has combined user agent capabilities. If so, the caller receives multimedia content from the automated attendant's combined user agent so that the content may be presented on the caller's computer to assist the caller in navigating through the automated attendant's menus and options. Upon selection of a desired connection from the menus and options, the automated attendant's combined user agent helps the caller be connected by voice to the selected connection.
