    Abstract: A semiconductor device containing a diffusion barrier layer is provided. The semiconductor device includes at least a semiconductor substrate containing conductive metal elements; and, a diffusion barrier layer applied to at least a portion of the substrate in contact with the conductive metal elements, the diffusion barrier layer having an upper surface and a lower surface and a central portion, and being formed from silicon, carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen with the nitrogen being non-uniformly distributed throughout the diffusion barrier layer. Thus, the nitrogen is more concentrated near the lower and upper surfaces of the diffusion barrier layer as compared to the central portion of the diffusion barrier layer. Methods for making the semiconductor devices are also provided.

    Abstract: At least one bypass assembly for use in a heating-refrigeration system having a distributor body with a first and second orifice, an inner chamber and a plurality of fluid passages integrated within, and a conduit connected to the distributor body. The conduit has a first end that connects with a component in the heating-refrigeration system, a second end that connects to the first orifice of the distributor body and a third end connected to the second orifice of the distributor body. A metering device is integrated into the conduit. The second orifice of the distributor body has a valve seat integrated therewithin and the conduit has at least one inwardly projecting indentation located in close proximity to the third end of the conduit. A ball is positioned between the valve seat and the inwardly projecting indentations for reciprocating movement therebetween.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an improved thrust bearing for extreme service applications through the use of a novel bearing cage assembly and improved surface design of the external face of the circular inside sidewall of the bearing cage assembly and race components. The novel bearing cage assembly allows for an increase in the quantity and size of the roller elements contained within the bearing cage, compared to others known in the art, which substantially increases the thrust bearings' load capacity. Moreover, the employment of a smooth curved surface on the external face of the circular inside sidewall of the bearing cage assembly and race components effectively eliminates any sharp edges and corners which could otherwise damage the rotating shaft. Thus, the combination of these two features substantially increases the load capacity, wear and durability of the thrust bearing components.

    Abstract: Manufacturing processes for articles that are formed from compositions of matter that include powders containing tungsten and at least one binder, as well as articles formed thereby. In some embodiments, the processes include compacting the mixture of powders under a first pressure to yield a desired intermediate structure, then reshaping the structure under a second pressure that is lower than the first pressure to yield the desired article. The compacting steps may include punches and/or dies having different configurations and/or materials of construction. The composition of matter preferably is selected to reflow, or be reshaped, without fragmenting or otherwise disintegrating into discrete particles or particulate. In some embodiments, the compacted intermediate structure and/or final article has an extrusion constant of less than 30,000 psi. In some embodiments, the mixture of powders has an ASTM Hall flowmeter reading for fifty grams through a cone (without tapping) of less than 18 seconds.

    Abstract: An advanced back-end-of-line (BEOL) metallization structure is disclosed. The structure includes a diffusion barrier or cap layer having a low dielectric constant (low-k), where the cap layer is formed of silicon nitride by a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PE CVD) process. The metallization structure also includes an inter-layer dielectric (ILD) formed of a carbon-containing dielectric material having a dielectric constant of less than about 4, and a continuous hardmask layer overlying the ILD which is preferably formed of silicon nitride or silicon carbide. A method for forming the BEOL metallization structure is also disclosed. The method includes a pre-clean or pre-activation step to improve the adhesion of the cap layer to the underlying copper conductors. The pre-clean or pre-activation step comprises exposing the copper surface to a reducing plasma including hydrogen, ammonia, nitrogen and/or noble gases.

A pneumatic cylinder is the preferred mechanism for applying outward pressure to the feather board. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the method includes applying an adhesion promoter to the wafer, thereby forming an adhesion promoter layer. A dielectric material is applied in a spin-on fashion upon the adhesion promoter layer at a relative humidity of less than 40% and for a thickness setting duration of less than 30 seconds. Then, the dielectric material is dried by baking without additional spinning of the semiconductor wafer.

A system for repairing a dent in sheet metal includes urging the spinning working head of the dent repair tool against a raised portion of dented sheet metal to reduce or eliminate a dent.
