    Abstract: A coherent laser radar (lidar) device is described. The device has a transmitter portion that comprises a single wavelength laser source, a conversion means (such as an electro-optic modulator) for producing a combined light beam that comprises at least two component light beams of discrete wavelength from the output of said single wavelength laser source, and transmit optics to direct the combined light beam to a remote target. Each component light beam of the combined light beam traverses the same optical path from the single wavelength laser source to the transmit optics. The device is used to make differential absorption measurements.

    Abstract: Lenses for lamps can improve the quality of the light emitted through lens by interacting with the light bulb. Photoluminescent dyes as well as non-photoluminescent dyes may be incorporated into a polycarbonate lens in order to shift the chromaticity of the light source. Further, design features such as grooves or protrusions may be incorporated into the lens to allow light produced by the photoluminescent material to escape the lens and be added to the emitted beam to further shift the chromaticity. The emitted beam is of a legal color and intensity as defined per the SAE J578 and SAE J1383 standards. The lighting performance may also be improved in such manner as reducing discomfort glare, increasing brightness or producing a beam that enhances road visibility at night to the human eye.

    Abstract: A coherent differential absorption lidar (DIAL) device 2 comprises a transmit portion 4 for directing a combined light beam to a remote target and a receive portion 5 for receiving light returned from the remote target and for coherently mixing the received light with its associated local oscillator beam. The combined beam comprises at least two component light beams of discrete wavelengths. The device further comprises a signal correction means. The signal correction means comprising a means for extracting a portion of each component light beam from the transmit portion, a means for introducing a frequency difference 62 between each extracted component light beam and its associated local oscillator beam and a means for directing the extracted beam into the receive portion. This provides an additional correction signal thereby improving device performance.

    Abstract: A magnetic sensor including a coil for sensing a changing magnetic field developed by paper currency moving past the magnetic sensor. A capacitor forms a tuned circuit with the magnetic sensor coil to pass only those signals lying within a predetermined frequency range. A comparator compares the signals lying within the pass band with a predetermined threshold to determine the presence or absence of genuine currency. The tuned circuit significantly improves the signal to noise ratio of the sensing means and hence, significantly improves the ability to determine the genuineness of the currency. In a second embodiment, the presence of a magnetic field having a field strength above the predetermined threshold is utilized to pass timing pulses for clocking a counter. A decoder gate coupled to the counter indicates the presence of a genuine bill, only after a predetermined count has been reached.
