  • Patent number: 8032626
Abstract: A service monitor and a browser monitor determine performance metrics on both a server and a client in connection with a distributed application running on a network. While applicable to other types of distributed application data, an example is described in which a Web page is requested by a user running a browser program on the client computer. In response, the server transmits the requested Web page, along with JavaScript code that defines a browser monitor, to the client. A browser monitoring function controlled by this code determines a plurality of different performance metrics related to the access of Web pages by the client. In addition, the server monitor determines performance metrics specific to its function in providing the Web page to the client. A correlated performance metric is determined by combining a server performance metric with a browser performance metric.

  • Patent number: 7822631
Abstract: Techniques are described for managing content by identifying content that has attributes of interest (e.g., content that is useful, humorous and/or that otherwise has a sufficiently high degree of quality) and by determining how to use such identified content. In some situations, a piece of content is automatically assessed in a manner based on automatically assessed levels of trust in users who are associated with the content, such as a user who authored or otherwise supplied the content and/or users who evaluated the content. For example, an automatically assessed level of trust for a user may be based on prior activities of the user and be used to predict future behavior of the user as a supplier of acceptable content and/or as an acceptable evaluator of supplied content, such as based on prior activities of the user that are not related to supplying and/or evaluating content.

  • Publication number: 20070299685
Abstract: Various embodiments provide ways to collect, organize and process metadata associated with particular instances of media content. Metadata can be collected from a variety of metadata providers and organized in individual content folders that can be provided to various client devices. The client devices can process the content folders to provide an electronic program guide for its users. Methods and systems can also make use of user-specific data to evaluate various media content and then make recommendations as to which content a user would most likely wish to experience. Such user-specific data can comprise one or more user preference files that contain information associated with individual users, and one or more significance files that hold values, for individual users, that can be used to determine the significance of any matches found between the user preference files and media content.

  • Publication number: 20070197491
Abstract: Methods and compositions for controlling ocular hypertension associated with (i) primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), (ii) other forms of glaucoma, or (iii) glucocorticoid therapy are disclosed. The methods involve administration of angiostatic agents and other IOP-lowering agents via local injections in the anterior segment of the eye. The most preferred IOP-lowering agents are angiostatic steroids, particularly anecortave acetate, and the most preferred route of administration is an anterior juxtascleral injection or implant. The invention is based in part on the discovery that anterior juxtascleral injections of anecortave acetate are capable of controlling intraocular pressure for sustained periods of from one to several months or more. This result is believed to be attributable to facilitation of access of the anecortave acetate to the trabecular meshwork via the anterior juxtascleral route of administration.

  • Publication number: 20070010941
Abstract: A navigation unit and system for land navigation particularly useful for vehicle travel. The navigation unit includes a routing program and programs to be used in conjunction with the routing programs. The programs used in conjunction with the routing program process current traffic information for segments of mapping information. The programs provide for a dynamic road speed sensitivity computation which allows the display of current speeds for various segments of mapping information which can be used to display a selected route with a parameter, such as estimated time for the trip, for the route computed based on current travel information. The unit also can contain a program for allowing the user to set an alert value for a parameter, and the program will alert the user when the current route satisfies the alert requirements, and computes one or more alternate routes that the user can select and display.

  • Publication number: 20060081348
Abstract: An absorbent composite that includes a fibrous matrix having absorbent material dispersed in bands along the composite's length is disclosed. The bands define liquid distribution zones. On liquid contact, absorbent material swelling occurs and produces a wetted composite having flutes that include swollen absorbent material separated by distribution zones, regions of the composite that are substantially free of absorbent material. Absorbent articles that include the composite are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050198689
Abstract: Improved methods and arrangements are provided for use in: selecting candidate television and multimedia programs for recording; recording the candidate programs; viewing the recorded programs; and archiving the recorded programs. At the center of this capability is a time-dependent content buffering arrangement that allows candidate programs to be selected by an intelligent content agent, with the assistance of a bubbling agent, an electronic program guide, a select library listing, and/or a personal profile associated with a particular user. According to one feature, a rate at which a viewer consumes programs determines a degree of selectivity by which candidate programs are selected.

At the center of this capability is a time-dependent content buffering arrangement that allows candidate programs to be selected by an intelligent content agent, with the assistance of a bubbling agent, an electronic program guide, a select library listing, and/or a personal profile associated with a particular user. The buffering arrangement selectively records candidate programs in a non-circular manner. Candidate programs may be dropped during recording based on certain information associated with the program. For example, examination of closed captioning information may reveal that the candidate program does not match the initial criteria for making it a candidate program.

  • Patent number: 6763462
Abstract: A method to detect a computer virus may be utilized by a virus detection routine which monitors electronic messages transmitted by an electronic mail (e-mail) application. Random numbers may be generated and associated with specific e-mail addresses in a distribution list or electronic address book. Each time the e-mail application transmits an electronic message, the virus routine may be invoked to inspect recipient addresses of the outgoing message. If the e-mail addresses corresponding to the random numbers match one or more of the recipient addresses, the virus routine may alert a user of potential virus activity.
