    Abstract: A marine riser component which has an integrated fatigue damage sensor in which the sensor is adapted to be damaged by stresses and strains applied to the marine riser component, and is adapted to record said damage on the sensor. The sensor is optionally integrated into the body of the marine riser component in a location on the component that transmits fatigue loads to the sensor at a known stress concentration factor, optionally in a recess on the body, for example, in a closed recess on an outer surface of the marine riser component.

    Abstract: Alzheimer' s disease (AD) is the common neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the formation of extraneuronal accumulation of amyloid fibrils and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles of Amyloid ?-Protein (A?) into plaques. Cactus mucilage extracted from Opuntia ficus-indica was analyzed in disturbing the aggregation pathway of Amyloid ?-Protein (A?) fibrils and ?-synuclein. Mucilage is a pectin polysaccharide with a backbone of ?-D-galacturonic acid and ?-L-rhamnose and a branch of arabinose or xylose. Two different fractions of mucilage can be extracted: pectin gelling extract which forms gels in the presence of Ca2+ ions (GE) and non-gelling extract (NE). The effectiveness of mucilage in disturbing the formation of A? fibrils was evaluated. A? monomeric species have been incubated along with different concentration of the mucilage extract in vitro. The aggregation kinetics of the A? proteins were monitored by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy.

    Abstract: A technique determines a depth measurement associated with a scene captured by an image capture device. The technique receives at least first and second images of the scene, in which the first image is captured using at least one different camera parameter than that of the second image. At least first and second image patches are selected from the first and second images, respectively, the selected patches corresponding to a common part of the scene. The selected image patches are used to determine which of the selected image patches provides a more focused representation of the common part. At least one value is calculated based on a combination of data in the first and second image patches, the combination being dependent on the more focused image patch. The depth measurement of the common part of the scene is determined from the at least one calculated value.
