    Abstract: A wearable wound simulant for simulating a battlefield wound is presented. The simulant facilitates a graphically and functionally realistic medical training tool. The simulant includes a skin replica and a wound. The skin replica is shaped to conformably contact and cover a body region either in part or whole. The skin replica further includes a plurality of bendable layers arranged to approximately replicate the visual and tactile properties of human tissue and at least one tear resistant layer composed of a fabric material disposed between two bendable layers. At least one tear resistant layer is less stretchable than the elastic limit of the bendable layers so as to prevent failure thereof. The bendable and tear resistant layers form a self-sealing structure. A three-dimensional wound structure is disposed along the skin replica so as to replicate the appearance and functionality of a penetrating or non-penetrating injury.

Design elements of the present invention facilitate the visual, tactile, and functional aspects of a battlefield wound so as to allow for the diagnosis of injuries associated therewith.

    Abstract: An electroluminescent (EL) one-way vision, see-through graphics panel comprises a sheet of light permeable material with a uniform electrically conductive coating. A print pattern comprising an electroluminescent ink system partially covers the sheet of light permeable material forms an ‘EL lamp’. A design is superimposed on, or forms part of, the print pattern such that the design is visible from only one side of the panel. The design can be a uniform color, but is typically a multi-color graphic image. The EL lamp illuminates the design when subjected to an electrical current. If the light permeable material is transparent, through vision is possible from the other side of the panel through the unprinted portions of the transparent material. A dark colored opaque mask layer faces in the direction of the other side of the panel to mask the other print pattern layers and enable good through vision.

More particularly, the dot product of the heat flux vector magnitude with the temperature gradient vector magnitude may be obtained to provide a bottleneck heat transfer characteristic value. Alternately or additionally, a cross product (or related operation) of the heat flux vector magnitude with the temperature gradient vector magnitude is obtained to produce a shortcut heat transfer characteristic value.

    Abstract: In order to allow a smoke detector unit to be utilized in, for example, a domestic kitchen environment, appliances whose operation is commonly associated with the generation of non-hazardous smoke or aerosols are connected to a conventional mains supply socket via a current monitoring unit. The current monitoring units include a radio transceiver, which transmits the operational status of the appliances to a corresponding transceiver of the smoke detector unit 1. If the signals transmitted by the current monitoring units indicate that the appliances and are off, the smoke detector unit generates a warning signal when the smoke density exceeds a lower threshold. If one of the appliances and is detected to be on, the smoke detector unit generates a warning signal only when a second, higher threshold of smoke density is exceeded. Optionally, when the higher smoke density threshold is exceeded; the smoke detector unit transmits the signal to the current monitoring unit to power off the appliances.

    Abstract: A fuel cell system includes a de-sulfurization tank, a reformer, a pressure monitoring device and a fuel cell stack. The de-sulfurization tank includes an agent that is adapted to remove sulfur compounds and is capable of undergoing a conditioning cycle. The tank includes an inlet to receive a first hydrocarbon flow and an outlet to provide a second hydrocarbon flow. The reformer is adapted to convert the second hydrocarbon flow into a reformate flow, which is received by the fuel cell stack. The pressure monitoring device monitors a pressure of the second hydrocarbon flow, a circuit of the fuel cell system is coupled to the pressure monitoring device to determine whether the conditioning of the tank is complete based on the pressure.
