  • Patent number: 8038575
Abstract: A releasable backstopping clutch is provided with a safety mechanism to prevent uncontrolled release of the clutch. A support structure is fixed against rotation and releaseably coupled to the one of the inner or outer members of the backstopping clutch. The support structure inhibits rotation of the member when coupled to the member and permits rotation of the member when uncoupled from the member to release the clutch. A sensor is configured to generate a signal indicative of a characteristic associated with movement of the member and a controller is configured to cause recoupling of the support structure and the member if the characteristic meets a predetermined condition.

  • Patent number: 7994770
Abstract: A system for detecting a buried conductor comprises a transmitter for generating a test signal in the buried conductor and a detector for detecting an electromagnetic signal resulting from the test signal flowing in the buried conductor. The transmitter comprises a waveform generator for generating a drive waveform signal, a power supply, an amplifier, connected to the power supply and the waveform generator for producing an output drive signal based on the drive waveform signal and an output circuit for acting on the output drive signal to generate an output signal having a current and a voltage. In-phase and quadrature components of the current and voltage of the output signal are fed back for controlling the amplifier.

  • Patent number: 7987960
Abstract: Various torque arm assemblies for a backstopping clutch are provided that enable load sharing among multiple torque arm assemblies, controlled release of load on the torque arm assembly and/or load sensing. The torque arm assembly includes a head member that is connected to an outer race of a backstopping clutch and defines a pair of attachment points. One end of an arm member is pivotally connected to one attachment point of the head member while the other end of the arm member is connected to a stationary structure. A strut extends between the other attachment point of the head member and the arm member. Upon backstopping action in one embodiment, the head member rotates slightly against the force of the strut allowing other torque arm assemblies to receive a portion of the system load. The position of the strut may be adjustable to allow controlled release of the load tension.

  • Publication number: 20110176542
Abstract: Systems and methods for real time data processing using a switching network and multiple digital signal processors (DSPs). In an embodiment, the system includes a first digital signal processor having a video port interface, a first interface disposed between the video port interface of the first digital signal processor and a switching network, a second digital signal processor having a video port interface, and a second interface disposed between the video port interface of the second digital processor and the switching network. The first interface is configured to parse a VSYNC line of a video frame that is output from the first digital signal processor via its video port interface to generate a multiplexing table based upon which scan lines of the video frame are broken up into packets compatible with the switching network such that the packets can be transmitted over the switching network and be received by the second interface and the second digital signal processor via its video port interface.

  • Publication number: 20110138567
Abstract: A rain detector for use with an automotive vehicle. The rain detector includes a capacitance sensor mounted to the inside surface of a windshield. The sensor includes at least two output lines which vary in capacitance as the function of magnitude of rain on the outside surface of the windshield. A programmed microcontroller receives the sensor output lines as analog input signals and then compares the magnitude of the capacitance with a threshold capacitance. In the event that the sensed capacitance exceeds the threshold capacitance, indicative of raindrops on the outside surface of the windshield, the microcontroller generates an output signal to the wiper control circuitry of the vehicle to activate the windshield wiper system.

  • Publication number: 20110043755
Abstract: Weighting garment and orthotics are provided for improving balance. In particular, adjustable balance evaluation systems are used to determine placement of a weight to improve a subject's balance. These evaluation systems may be used to create customized garments for enhancing or improving balance. Described herein are customized garments for enhancing balance. Methods of creating customized garments enhance balance from the adjustable balance evaluation systems. Methods and apparatus further include eyeglasses with weights and testing methods to improve vision.

  • Publication number: 20100060285
Abstract: A detector for detecting a buried conductor comprises a plurality of antennas B, T. Each antenna B, T has a winding wound around the antenna, the winding being connected to a current source for providing a predefined current in the winding. When the predefined current is applied to the winding an electromagnetic field is generated at the antenna which induces a test current in the antenna. The test current is compared to calibration data stored in the detector to validate the correct operation of the detector.
