  • Publication number: 20200238100
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for selectively providing laser induced optical breakdown (LIOB) of absorptive targets in biological media. For example, LIOB may be used as part of tissue therapy, such as cosmetic therapy associated with tattoo removal. In some implementation, a system for selectively providing LIOB includes a field generator configured to generate a field and to apply the field through a portion of a biological medium. The system also includes a light source configured to deliver laser light to the portion of the biological medium during application of the field. Application of the field to the biological medium induces movement of free electrons within the portion of the biological medium which may reduce or slow the formation of vacuoles in the biological medium responsive to the laser light.

  • Patent number: 10632662
Abstract: Disclosed apparatus and method to extrude a honeycomb, providing correction in bowing of the extruded honeycomb structure, employs a deflector device having a base plate including an opening aligned in a direction parallel to the extrusion axis through which the plastic material is conveyed to the die. The deflector device includes a bow plate movably mounted to the downstream or upstream side of the base plate. The bow plate includes a constant area aperture. The deflector device positioned upstream of extrusion die imparts a degree of bow reduction by the position of the constant area aperture over the opening imparting a pressure drop gradient on the flow stream entering the die.

  • Publication number: 20200046391
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for generating therapeutic compressed acoustic waves (e.g., shock waves) with an improved acoustic wavefront. In the apparatuses, a housing is defined by a chamber and a shockwave outlet, the chamber is configured to be filed with liquid, a plurality of electrodes defining one or more spark gaps and an acoustic reflector can disposed in the chamber, and a pulse generation system configured to apply voltage pulses to the electrodes at a rate of between 10 Hz and 5 MHz. The improved acoustic wavefront is achieved via a free-form acoustic reflector and/or a stable spark gap location. The free-form acoustic reflector is designed according to a disclosed method including iterating reflector shape using spline interpolation based on defined variables. Additionally, a stable spark gap location is achieved via a single servomotor that adjusts both electrodes simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20190322235
Abstract: The present invention is designed to be fitted in the upper part of Roll Bars on small vehicles such as quad bikes, ATV's, ride-on mowers, and small tractors (“small vehicles”) to overcome the issue with striking overhanging objects. If the Roll Bar system including the present invention is struck when the vehicle is in forward motion, the present invention allows the upper portion of the Roll Bar to flex, either allowing it to pass under the object or providing a more gradual reduction in speed as opposed to an instant jolt, then returning to the original upright position.

  • Patent number: 10247474
Abstract: Microwave drying of ceramic honeycomb logs using a customizable cover that can take the form of a flexible wrap or a rigid cover is disclosed. The cover can be in the form of a wrap disposed directly in contact with the leading edge of the log surface. The cover can also be a rigid cover disposed adjacent but not in contact with the leading edge of the log surface. At least a portion of the trailing edge of the log can remain uncovered either by having windows in the wrap or by the rigid cover only covering the leading edge of the log surface. The customizable cover can be configured to compensate for log shape deformities as well as or in addition to the adverse effect on log shape cause by the drying differential created by passing a log through a microwave drying station leading-edge first.
